Greetings from the Artistic Directors

Welcome to the 2023 Edward Auer Piano Workshop at Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music.

The Edward Auer Summer Workshop is held the second half of July every year with internationally acclaimed guest artists and advanced young pianists from all over the world.

More than 25 years ago the Edward Auer Piano Workshop was a modest-size Chopin Workshop with one teacher (Edward Auer) with several participants. For more than 10 years now the EA workshop has expanded to 7-9 internationally active guests such as Jerome Lowenthal and Richard Goode, as well as around 40-45 international participants.

In recent years the Workshop has added a solo competition and a concerto competition with opportunities for two participants to perform a full concerto with orchestra (2013-2019). In 2015, the entire Workshop was streamed and archived for the first time, enabling remote participation and increasing the Workshop’s geographical reach. In 2016, chamber music was introduced, and, in 2017, the Workshop presented all five Beethoven piano concertos for the first time as a series at the Jacobs School.

This summer we are honored to have a special guest artist, Bulgarian-Polish pianist, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń. She has been the chairperson for the last few times of the international Chopin Competition in Warsaw, and she has judged many international competitions such as the Rubinstein Piano Competition in Tel-Aviv.

Besides Popowa-Zydroń, we have English pianist Peter Bithell, American Pianist Winston Choi, Korean pianist Eun Jung Shon, Hong Kong Pianist Amy Sze in addition to us the directors, Edward Auer and Junghwa Moon Auer.

Our international participants have widely different backgrounds, but along with valuable33333 guidance by our faculty members we strongly believe we will all learn and be inspired by the program of the workshop. And of course we will all become friends through our beautiful music.

Please join us for our wonderful concerts during the 2023 EA Summer Piano Workshop!

Sincerely,

Edward Auer and Junghwa Moon Auer
