The purpose of this guide is to give you the latest information on training and upcoming events, and to keep you updated on the running s ce n e. This magazine can be a substitute for entry forms, so please use the forms in this book to register for any of the listed races.

Interested in Running 55 miles (or at least a portion of it) for Wolfson Children’s Hospital?

More than three years ago when Paul Wilson’s son, Luke, was born with Spina Bifida, he wanted to do something to give back to the hospital that helped his family during what could have been a very stressful time. Walking the halls of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Paul realized the hospital was started in 1955. He wanted to do something to symbolize that number. A runner, Paul committed to running 55 miles in honor of the year Wolfson Children’s began taking care of the pediatric health care needs of the Jacksonville Community.

From his idea, One to Grow On was born. Presented by RPM Automotive, the day long celebration honors 55 children and their families that tell their story at each mile of the ultra marathon. An oversized birthday cake with 56 candles is the centerpiece for the festivities at the Jacksonville Landing. Guests enjoy a Birthday Celebration presented by Shawn Perce Orthodontics, participate in the Run 5 to Keep Kids Alive presented by iMethods, and cheer on the Ultra Marathon runners as they complete the 11 five mile loops.

Today, Paul and a few other elite athletes are preparing to run their third 55 mile ultra marathon in honor of Wolfson Children’s. In response to community interest, there is now a relay option for teams that want to participate in the Ultra Marathon.

Groups of 5 to 11 people run the 55 miles in a relay format starting at midnight on Saturday, January 28. For more information on how you can participate in the Ultra Marathon Relay, please contact Wolfson Children’s Hospital at (904) 202-2458 or visit www.wolfson55.org.

1ST THURSDAYS WITH JOI Every 1st Thursday, 1st Place Sports and JOI (Jacksonville Orthopaedic Institute) will be teaming up for a seminar and Q&A session on different topics.

GOOD FORM RUNNING CLINICS Join 1st Place Sports as we offer a running clinic to help you become a faster and more efficient runner. The clinic is offered on Wednesday nights at your selected 1st Place Sports location at 6:00 PM. The clinic is free, but is limited to twenty runners per class. Running is a skill to be learned. Let us show you the proper techniques, which could make you a faster runner, make your running easier, and help you avoid common running injuries. The clinic lasts for about an hour, is fun and very informative! Please wear running shoes and apparel as we will have you run (2-3 minutes) as part of the clinic.

THE COURSE The Nocatee Trail Blazer Run is a 5K run/walk on the roads and trails in the Nocatee Community. The course will take you along Crosswater Parkway and Preservation Trail. There will be a one mile run starting from the finish of the 5K at 9 AM.

I know that running a road race is a potentially hazardous activity which could cause injury or death. I should not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my signature, I certify that I am medically able to perform this event, am in good health, and am properly trained. I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to any aspect of my participation in this event, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I assume all risks associated with running in this event, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and /or humidity, track and the conditions of the road. I also understand that in the event that this race has to be cancelled for any reason beyond the control of race management that my entry fee will not be refunded. RACE TIMING ChampionChip timing will be used for this event. Each participant will receive a timing chip.

The CORPORATE RUN/WALK, which attracts over 3,000 participants, is a 5K run/walk open to employees of corporations, government agencies, financial institutions, and individuals. All levels of runners and walkers are encouraged to participate. Participants receive a souvenir t-shirt and a post-race party billed as Jacksonville’s largest office party.

MALE AND FEMALE COMPETITION A company can have as many teams as they wish in the two different divisions as long as team members are employees of that organization. Employees must work a minimum of 20 hours per week to qualify. However, for non scoring, Team Spirit Award participation purposes you can put anyone on your team.

AWARDS Team Awards: Awards will be presented to the first place male and female teams in each division at the awards ceremony. These awards will be based on the total times of the top three finishers on each team. To count in the team scoring, team members must work 20 hours per week. Winning teams employment will be verified.

Individual Awards: Awards will be presented on race night to the top three Overall Male & Female winners and to the top Male & Female CEO finishers.

Team Spirit Award: The company or organization with the largest number of participants (runners & walkers) will be awarded the Team Spirit Cup at the awards ceremony right after the race. For this award, friends and family can be included.

TEAM SCORING The first three team members to cross the finish line will score for their team. A participant can only be on one team: Mens or Womens. A company may have up to 3 teams: Mens, Womens, and Non Employees. Non Employee Teams will not score. CEOs may be listed individually and/or on one team. To participate in the CEO category, participants MUST pre-register as a CEO! No changes to CEO status will be made on race night.

CEO COMPETITION Anyone participating in the CEO category must be the most senior full-time employee of the company.
