The purpose of this guide is to give you the latest information on training and upcoming events, and to keep you updated on the running s ce n e. This magazine can be a substitute for entry forms, so please use the forms in this book to register for any of the listed races.

If you are entering 1st Place Sports races, you can get more information about upcoming events and results from our past races on the internet at www.1 st p l a ce s p o r t s .co m . P l e a s e save this m a g a z i n e for packet pickup information and day-of-race i n s t r u c t i o n s . S o m e o f t h e l a rg e r races will send you a confirmation of entry, but most of the time you should just pick up your packet as indicated on the race ad.

The Jacksonville Running Event Guide is mailed to runners who have participated in one of our events in the last quarter. It is free! All we ask is that you let us know when you have a change of address.

We wish everyone could receive a free Guide each quarter, but costs prohibit it. If you have run a race in the last quarter, we will mail you a Running Guide for the next quarter. If you do not get one and would like to receive one, you can pick up a copy at one of the 1st Place Sports running store locations.

"GET MOVING JAX!" 5K TRAINING CLASS Are you interested in...completing a 5K, but aren't sure how to get started? ...losing weight and feeling more energetic? ...joining a running class just for beginners? Register for the "Get Moving Jax!" 8-Week, 5K Training Program! This program, starting January 8th, is designed to help you start a personalized run or run/walk program. GATE RIVER RUN 15K TRAINING PROGRAM The 2013 GATE River Run 15K Clas s is an 8-week program preparing individuals to participate in Jacksonville’s premier running event. Class start date is Tuesday, January 8, 2013 a t the 1st Place Sports Town Center Store at 6:30 PM (come prepared for a short run or run w alk that evening). The class is conducted by John Metzgar who has led numer ous classes preparing participants for distances from the 5K (3.1 miles ) to the Half Marathon (13.1 miles). He is an e xperienced runner of more than 25 years and he is a t op area agegroup runner. In addition t o John, there will be pace group leaders providing additional guidance and encouragement. GOOD FORM RUNNING CLINICS Join 1st Place Sports as we offer a running clinic to help you become a faster and more efficient runner. The clinic is offered on Wednesday nights at your selected 1st Place Sports location at 6:00 PM. The clinic is free, but is limited to twenty runners per class.

Running is a skill to be learned. Let us show you the proper techniques, which could make you a faster runner, make your running easier, and help you avoid common running injuries.

The clinic lasts for about an hour, is fun and very informative! Please wear running shoes and apparel as we will have you run (2-3 minutes) as part of the clinic.

GROUP RUNS Most of our stores meet for group runs throughout the week. Call the stores if you have any specific questions about the group runs below:

Runners hit the pavement in Downtown Jacksonville for an Ultra fun run and an Ultra good cause. Proceeds will go towards a 3 Tesla MRI Machine to help doctors detect disease with greater resolution and provide much better care for our children.
