GATE RIVER RUN OFFICIAL TRAINING CLASS A 9-week program in Jacksonville, Florida, to prepare individuals to participate in the GATE River Run, March 2015.

BEGINNING DATE: Thursday, January 8, 2015 1ST MEETING LOCATION: Town Center Store, 6:30 PM

TRAINING CLASS DESCRIPTION The GATE River Run Class is a 9-week program preparing individuals to participate in the GATE River Run on March 14, 2015. The class starts on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 1st Place Sports, Town Center Store (4870 Big Island Drive) at 6:30 PM. The class can serve as a stepping stone for those planning to complete a marathon in the fall.

YOUR RUNNING LEVEL Most participants will progress towards completing the entire 15K running, but others may prefer a walk/run combination to complete the race. It is recommended that you be running or walk/running two to three weeks preceding the class start date. The program will accommodate all levels of runners, so everyone is encouraged to participate in the training class. Groups will be formed to accommodate most levels, and training will be tailored to reach specific goals.

GROUP RUNS Being present at any particular training event or day is not a requirement to benefit from the class but be prepared to train 4-5 times per week for a significant benefit.

Tuesdays: The class will meet every Tuesday starting January 13th at 6:30 PM for a group run. We will conduct a group discussion and depart for a training run at 6:45 PM – 7:00 PM. The Tuesday location is on the River Walk near the Yates YMCA in Riverside.

Weekends: We will meet every other weekend on either

Saturday or Sunday at 7:00 AM for a long group run in varying locations throughout the Jacksonville area: Downtown, Ortega, Orange Park, San Marco and Fleming Island: January 10th, January 25th, February 7th, February 21st, and March 7th.

TRAINING CLASS COACH The class is conducted by John Metzgar who has led numerous classes preparing participants for distances from the 5K (3.1 miles) to the Half Marathon (13.1 miles). He is an experienced runner of more than 25 years and he is a competitive local runner. In addition to John, there will be pace group leaders providing additional guidance and encouragement.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration is online at www.jtcrunning.com/ events. There are no credit/debit card fees involved online. As part of the program, you will receive a JTC Running Membership (for nonmembers) and a Training Group performance top.

Running is a skill to be learned. Let us show you the proper techniques, which could make you a faster runner, make your running easier, and help you avoid common running injuries.

• Wednesday nights at 6:00 PM. • The clinic is free, but is limited to twenty five runners per class • The clinic lasts for about an hour, is fun and very informative!

POST RACE CELEBRATION

The race will be timed using the MyLaps Timing System (timing chip must be worn on your shoe or ankle during the race). Your entry fee covers the cost of the chip rental. If you have your own chip, you need to enter your chip number on the entry form, and deduct $2.00 from the entry fee. You must cross the timing mats at the start and finish to be included in the results. If you own your own chip and register race day, you HAVE to wear one of our chips! Do not wear your personal chip if you sign up on raceday!
