CONTENTS The Jacksonville Event Running Guide is published four times a year by the 1st Place Sports Running Club. The purpose of this guide is to give you the latest information on training and upcoming events, and to keep you updated on the running s ce n e. This magazine can be a substitute for entry forms, so please use the forms in this book to register for any of the listed races.

We wish everyone could receive a free Guide each quarter, but costs prohibit it. If you have run a race in the last quarter, we will mail you a Running Guide for the next quarter. #RUNNOVATION A 1ST PLACE SPORTS COACHING PROGRAM » Have you been running for 6-12 months, and are ready to take your running to the next level? » Have you hit a plateau in your training, and need some variety in your workouts to continue to improve? » Are you looking for extra motivation and experienced advice and direction?

If you have answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then our 1st Place Sports #RUNNOVATION Coaching Program may be right for you. We are adding this service to the list of offerings available at 1st Place Sports!

PROGRAM DETAILS: This program will be available for up to 40 runners.

We will train you for any distance from 5K up to the marathon, and provide a safe and structured environment for you to tackle your fitness goals.

Currently, this service is open to runners with at least intermediate level experience, roughly defined as having run continually for at least 6-12 months, with some experience participating in races. In essence, this is best suited for someone looking to develop their running and take it to the next level.

PROGRAM COST: The cost of the coaching program is $65/month. If you're not quite sure what your running goal is and you just want to check out the program, you can sign up for just one month. If you know you have a specific goal in mind, you can sign up for up to 6 months at a time!

PROGRAM PERKS: Members of the program will receive the following:

• initial consulation and fitness evaluation with a coach • individual running form assessment • individualized and specifically tailored monthly training schedule • two organized weekly group runs with a coach (speed work and long run) • high quality t-shirt • short sleeved technical shirt (gender specific sizing) • race day singlet (gender specific sizing) • 15% in-store discount on all products sold at 1st Place Sports • 20% discount on all New Balance shoes and apparel at any 1st Place Sports store

PROGRAM COACH: Your #RUNNOVATION coach is David Martinson, a long time runner and our 1st Place Sports San Marco Store manager! He began running in middle school, followed by two years at Bishop Kenny High School in Jacksonville, where he helped lead the team to its third of seven Cross Country state titles. He also ran on the track team, but cross-country was his passion.

He trained for the 1995 Disney Marathon, and then took a hiatus from the sport. Upon returning, he focused primarily on the marathon for 3 years, and is now interested in training for other distances. He has raced competitively both in Atlanta, GA and Jacksonville, FL, and has been an employee of 1st Place Sports for over 2 years. David has trained 10 athletes over the last 2 years from distances ranging from 5K to marathon. He enjoys working with runners to set goals for themselves, and helping them to work hard to methodically and safely attain them. David also firmly believes in a holistic approach to running through heightened attention to diet and nutrition, and has a wealth of knowledge on the subject.

PACKET PICKUP You can pick up your race number and shirt on Sunday at the Race Site beginning at 7:30 AM.

RACE TIMING The race will be timed using the MyLaps Timing Chip (chip must be worn on your shoe during the race). You can pick up the chip on race morning. Your entry fee covers the cost of the chip rental. If you have your own chip, you need to enter your chip number on the entry form, and deduct $2.00 from the entry fee. Do not wear your personal chip if you sign up on raceday!

I understand that my participation in this event is physically demanding and can be a potentially hazardous activity, which could cause injury or death. I agree to not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my signature, I certify that I am medically able to perform, am in good health, and am properly trained. I assume all risks associated with my participant in this event, including but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather, including high heat and /or humidity, traffic on the course and the conditions of the course, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. Athlete agrees to indemnify and hold harmless each of the Releasees from and against any and all damages, costs or claims, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, made by any third party due to or arising from or relating to the participation of Athlete in the Marathon or the violation of this Agreement. Athlete hereby assumes all risks of loss (es), damage(s), or injury (ies) that may be sustained by him/her while participating in the Marathon. In the event the Marathon is delayed or cancelled for any reason, including but not limited to: fire, threatened or actual strike, labor difficulty, work stoppage, insurrecting war, public disaster, flood, unavoidable causuality, acts of God or the elements (including without limitation, rain, hail, hurricane, tornado, earthquake), or any other cause beyond the control of the 26.2 with DONNA The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer, Inc. or The Donna Foundation, Inc. there shall be no refund of the entry fee or any other costs of the Athlete in connection with the Marathon. The athlete hereby grants the medical director of the Marathon, and his/her agents, affiliates and designees, access to all medical records (and physisions) as needed and authorizes medical treatment as needed. Athlete understands that they have the right to refuse medical care and advice of Marathon medical directors and representatives; if Athlete’s medical condition becomes such that the Athlete’s mental capacity is questioned, the physician has the right to recommend and initiate treatment for the Athlete. It is understood and agreed that Athlete hereby assumes liability for any and all medical expenses incurred as a result of training for and/or participation in the Marathon, including but not limited to, ambulance transport, hospital stays, physician and pharmaceutical goods and services. Athlete warrants that all statements made herein are true and correct and understands that Releasees have relied on them in allowing Athlete to participate in the Marathon.
