1AM bugger the recession says rickie dee of newmarket fashion boutique SUPERETTE, we’re going to open another store on the other side of town. with two other stores already in auckland city, chris cherry of WORKSHOP has similar sentiments popping up this month with a huge new flagship store right in the heart of ponsonby following on the heels of ZAMBESI and most recently KAREN WALKER (who’s also just opened up the dept store with blackbox in takapuna), while KATE SYLVESTER sets her site further afield popping the cork for her debut store opening in sydney next week.

in a move that echo's the recent huffer/miss crabb collaboration, streetwear label NVAH has also sought a high fashion edge for winter 2010, enlisting designer Chelsea Thorpe known for her chic and stylish womanswear to help them create a fashion forward label to compliment their already successful street wear range. the resulting ‘Weird and Wonderful’ collection due to hit stores early next year, is inspired by a visit to a circus... sequins, stars, checks and wool all tumble together to create a diverse and interesting collection. the collaboration hots up next year with the release of their ‘Never Black’ label, a perfect mix, so they reckon of what both labels do best watch this space!

Where were you born? Clyde in Central Otago Where do you consider your hometown to be? Waikouaiti, Dunedin, New Zealand. What is your star sign? Pisces. What do you love most about your hometown? My Family, My Friends and Aliana my agent from AliMcD Models :) Where is the best place to get a coffee and hang? There isn’t really anywhere to go in Waikouaiti but in Dunedin: Modaks and Nova do the best coffees I’ve had, they are delicious. Where is the best place to shop for a new outfit? I think it is nice to go opshopping and support local charities like The Community Hospice, or just head to Save Mart for a sweet bargain, or if you like, JayJays, Belle Bird, Void, Slick Willy’s, and Stir which was an AMAZING little shop and it sucks that it’s gone, but there is just so many cute wee places. Where is the best place to listen to music? You can listen to music pretty much where ever you happen to be, but Real Groovy was a great shop and sometimes the town hall hosts some pretty awesome international and local musical acts, like Metro Station, Bass Hunter, Midnight Youth etc.If could change one thing about your hometown, what would it be? Waikouaiti and Dunedin I dont think I could have them any other way to be honest. I love them so much! They have a lot to offer if you know what you are looking for and the locals are always willing to help you out. What is your hometown known for? iD Dunedin Fashion Week, Cadbury’s, Lanarch’s Castle, Otago Boys’ High and Otago Girls’ High, The Royal Albatrosses and most recently AliMcD agency, oh and our Railway Station. What is important to you this week? Studying for exams haha and staying relaxed and of course having fun! DECEMBER’S PET OF THE MONTH has a life that reads like a fairytale - it’s a rags to riches and ugly duckling story rolled into one. Born with a dubious pedigre sired by any one his bitch of a mothers countless late night trysts, Rhodesian Ridgeback/Great Dane cross MONTY, was discovered unwanted and abandoned on the streets and was taken in by the SPCA to live in their orphanage for others of his plight. How he ended up where he is today, at the helm of one of New Zeakands most sucessful model agencies, RED 11, is a story that his adopted mother, best friend and agency co-founder and director Amanda Betts relishes telling - though not half as good as the one about her life i’m sure we’ll get to read about one day when she’s ready to tell it. photo by Amanda Betts.
