In this building CSEB brick blocks have been used as they are more natural than normal bricks and the front jali work at the north facade comprises of fero cement over bamboo grid reinforcement. A typical garden is designed at the south-east part of the site to give a shaded place to go at summers and also a welcoming area for physiotherapy patients. The placement of the rooms is planned in a zig zag manner so that corridoors can be lit up through natural sunlight. Altogether it is an amalgamation of characteristics catering to both the people and the nature.

The goal was to provide a 200 bedded hospital in South Delhi’s one of the of busiest areas (Shukdev Vihar) with an eco-friendly building which will generate a positive vibe .

The building is provided with a human friendly circulation space and simple floor plates for ease of movement in all the departments.

The goal was to design a student center for the students of Sharda University.

The student center is situated in the university campus at the nerve focal point.

In a big university as such,every year thousands of students come in and pass out. Hence, the building design required to be steady and stable , Thus ,shipping containers have been used as the basic buildingmaterial as they can be easily moved and displaced and also be arranged in any fashion required.

Additionally this material can be easily recycled and thus it will be sustainable.

It creates a sense of unpredictability in terms of the shape of the building which matches the life of students in a university life full of rollercoasters.

PARAMETRIC PAVILION The proposal design model of a pavilion is the direct result of an extensive exploration of various plastic sheets and their properties.the shape of the pavilion comprises of a double curved surface (which was supposed to be achieved as per the design brief).The plastic sheets,namely-polycarbonate sheet,acrylic sheets and polypropylene sheets,were subjected to hot air,provided by a heat gun and were placed in a carefully planned apparatus.This apparatus contained of numerous nails where heights was adjustable.the nails were placed in unique arrangement and gave unpredictable shapes to the sheets (placed on them)on heating.Polycarbonate turned out to be the most durable and easily mouldable material and was explored further various iterations were applied on the polycarbonate sheets which resulted in prototypes having geometries varing from being locally doubled curved to globally doubled curved.The final form is the result of grasping the nature of the material and understanding the possibilities of the apparatus.

Working of the apparatus

In this apparatus heating gun is appiled from the top over the channel. Basically channel is used to provide a constant height to applied heat. Nails are placed in the plywood which are adjustable to give the sheet desired shape over it when heated.

Aim- To achieve a double cuved surface with the selected material but should not be pre-defined or precasted.

Material used - Polycarbonate sheet(2mm thick).

Procedure-

Taking polycarbonate sheet(2400x1200mm)

Cutting the sheet into size of (350x450mm)

Putting the sheet of apparatus on the nails arragement

After all the experimentation in all the phases this is the final prototype with optimum results and fits best according to the need of the pavilion.It provides a clear view of the surroundings with an amazing experience of acting as a closed as well as a semi open structure. Tadao Ando’s philosophy of duality was taken as an inspiration while coming up with the design . Also by keeping our aim intact to creat a double curved surfaced pavilion we have kept norms of parametric architecture intact.

PONDICHERRY AUROVILLE WORKSHOP (ON HAND CONSTRUCTION )

The live site workshop was conducted at Auroville in Pondicherry. This interesting workshop was held their site called Auroyali where we aimed to make a dining hall using materials which are sustainable in nature. This workshop had two main objectives, first was to build a nature friendly structure using sustainable materials and second was to use the knowledge and expertise of an architect to build it.

The workshop used sustainable materials like mud which was the main component, along with bamboo and CSEB bricks which are indeed good alternatives to modern day bricks. CSEB bricks are also called as Compressed Stabilized Earth Bricks which are sustainable in nature. The workshop also included usage of modern construction techniques like usage of Ferro Cement. The cement which helped the dining hall have a thick and firm top.

This workshop let me experience both how to use architectural skills and technology at a live site and also how to use sustainable material to build a firm and steady structure
