WELCOME

We are pleased to share our summer edition of 1886 Magazine. This issue will highlight many fun ways to use the Club through the remainder of our summer season and into the early autumn

We have had a busy and fun-filled start to the year, beginning with record attendance at our Mother’s Day Brunch and at our Independence Day Celebration Despite a one-hour rain event, our fireworks went off without a hitch and over 650 members enjoyed great food, laughter and fireworks Several “Wine, Nine and Dine” events have also been introduced to the calendar to offer a casual option each month Friday nights at our Golf House continue to grow and feature live music and often changing menu items As a gentle reminder, reservations are gratefully accepted and appreciated for dinner (or large parties anytime) at all dining venues Our ability to create the best possible experience for all members and their guests is tied to forecasting activity levels whenever possible While we know that sometimes “dropping in” is unavoidable, a call ahead or early reservation ensures the best possible service for everyone.

On another important note, I am happy to report that our membership continues to grow here at Tuxedo. This said, our pipeline of new Oak Leafs is lighter than in recent years Members introducing candidates is our best way to ensure continued Club vibrancy, while maintaining a culture that is embraced by the membership. If you have an interested friend or family member, please contact our Membership Director Katie Gaertner

As always, I look forward to seeing you on your visits to the Club and hope the rest of the summer brings warm days cool evenings

SUMMERTIME FUN

Now that we have entered the heat of summer, the Club is bustling with activities including special events, member dining, kids summer socials & more! We are so happy to see everyone out and about utilizing all that we have to offer during this special time of year.

Looking back to Memorial Day weekend we had wonderful weather to kick off the season at our annual Polar Plunge at the Pool and yet another great rendition of our annual memberfavorite, Smokehouse at the Boathouse. June brought the sweltering heat, but that did not dampen the fun that was had at Rosé Day Father’s Day in Margaritaville and more Our Independence Day Fireworks and BBQ, albeit a bit wetter than we expected, was one the best nights of the year so far. and we thank everyone for bearing with us as we endured that unexpected storm The show must go on!

SUMMERTIME FUN CONT’D

Looking forward on the calendar we have our 10th anniversary of our Concours d’Elegance ‘Field of Driving Dreams’ on Sunday, July 28th A friendly reminder to make your reservation sooner rather than later, as seating is reserved on a first come, first served basis We will have our Labor Day Shore Dinner on Friday, August 30th followed by our end of summer Labor Day fireworks celebration on Saturday, August 31st Keep an eye out for other pop-up wine tastings and theme nights as we inch closer to the end of summer

Believe it or not, it’s not too soon to book your holiday functions here at the Club Dates are going fast, if you are interested, please email Events Manager Maura Lennon

We hope that everyone will enjoy the reminder of the summer months here at the Club As always, please reach out if you need any assistance with reservations, events, or anything at all!

The one word to describe the addition of Padel to our plethora of racquet sports at The Tuxedo Club is….FUN!

Everyone who has stepped on to the courts, whether they were excited and keen, or reluctant to give it a try, have all come off court going….’WOW, that was fun!’

Congratulations again to the Board of Governors for being forward thinking and taking a chance on adding Padel to the list of sports offerings at the Club.

GOLF CLUBHOUSE

As we approach the half way point in the season, I’d like to thank all members for their continued support of the Club and staff We have been fortunate with beautiful summer weather this year, albeit several heat waves, that has drawn members to the Golf Clubhouse keeping both the facilities & golf course lively.

Over the past few months, we have put our efforts into enhancing the member experience Tuscan Flight Night was a huge success Members who dined this evening enjoyed the Friday night live music, Tuscan-Style pizza specials straight out of the pizza oven on the patio & a specialty Tuscan wine list with flight tasting options We’ve also opened up our “Nine & Dine” golf evenings to the entire membership, allowing for another value-added evening of service on a Wednesday night (once a month), which included a buffet menu focused on the theme regions cuisine and a wine pairing to follow So far we have featured “Iberian Nights” and “Soiree Vin et Bistro” themes, both well received! Keep an eye out for more of these ” pop-up ” dinner concepts in the weekly e-mail blast.

As far as the Golf Calendar goes, we are fortunate to still have available dates for the upcoming season – including two premium dates in the Fall (September 16th & 23rd) Golf outings are a wonderful source of revenue for our Club as well as a great way to attract new members Most of our golf outings come to us from a relationship a Member has with a charitable foundation, company or trade association As you peruse the calendar, take note of available Mondays to host larger golf outings or consider smaller outings during the week. If anyone has a lead or any questions, please contact myself or Chris Muldoon

COURSE UPDATE

Summer is here and so is the HEAT After wrapping up a hot Men’s Invitational Week and a rainy end of the month of June (four inches of rain in two weeks), it seems July weather patterns have significantly shifted to extremely hot and humid. From my records, we have already experienced more days over 90 degrees in 2024 then during all of last year! The golf course is holding its own and so is our staff As you surely have noticed during your rounds, on a daily basis we have had eight to as many as 12 staff members hand watering greens, tees, and fairways to keep areas of heat stress and wilt under control-and also to conserve water from our irrigation pond

Special thanks go out to our staff for continually pushing through the heat to keep the golf course and its features alive and playable Extreme heat has certainly impacted the health of the course in some areas, but overall, it is holding its own as we approach midJuly and it is because of the dedication and hard work of our staff members

During my past 25 years of working on golf courses, the months of July and August are always the most difficult to manage from a plant health standpoint. Extreme temperatures, high humidity, reduced root mass and disease pressure are all major factors to work around Chemical and fertilizer applications are a weekly occurrence and proper water management is paramount At our course, proactive measures, like fans, are in place to create better growing environments for greens 2, 4, and 11, all of which have poor air movement and high disease pressure. Fans can lower surface temperatures on putting greens as much as 12-15 degrees This is a great benefit to the grass varieties we have on our property, considering poa annua (80-85% of the grasses we have on property) plant mechanisms begin to shut down above 85 degrees

Happy summer and stay cool!

GOLF

UPDATE

We are approaching the middle of the summer and generally our busiest time of year on the golf course. As we look back on the first couple months of the season, we’d like to recognize some of our recent tournament winners

Despite the extreme heat, we largely dodged thunderstorms during the Men’s Invitational as a full field of players enjoyed three days of golf, camaraderie, and competition Jatindar Kapur & guest Anil Kripalani knocked off two-time defending champions Joe Furlong & guest Ed Coughlin among others in the Flight Champions Shoot-Out. Guest Anil Kripalani drained an 8’ breaking putt for the only birdie on the short par 3 from the 18th fairway in the sudden-death true alternate-shot format to secure the victory for his team

Some of our other “Silver” trophy winners (since June) include Jay & Patty Mottola who won our first Mixed event of the season, the McVickar Cup This is their fist time winning as a team since joining the Club in 1980!

Igor Kosharsky repeated as deRham Cup Champion (18-Hole Individual Net Stroke Play for Members under the age of 50) against a shrinking field of eligible participants

Ray Carli won the Hay Cup (18-Hole Individual Stroke Play for Members 50 years of age and older) by a three-stroke margin with an impressive score of 66 Net

In the first Ladies’ 18-Hole silver event of the season, Karen Banyo claimed her third Laurie Zellweger victory (2012, 2021, & 2024) with 41 stableford points!

GOLF

UPDATE

Kellie Baldwin & Joette Fullerton etched their names on the (Ladies’ 18-Hole) Governor’s Cup for the fourth time in a five-year span after winning the first playoff hole in exciting fashion over Runners-Up Karen Cariddi & Nathalie Maio

Most recently, Tyler Cline pulled off a rare double victory in the Mason & Tomes Cups. Over 36 holes, Cline made an eagle, 10 birdies, and just one bogey on his way to a record-breaking twoday total of 131 (-11) and a 19-stroke victory margin in the Tomes Cup Despite giving back 6 handicap strokes as a +3 handicap, he won the Mason Cup (net) by 5 strokes and claimed both trophies for the first time since Bob Rohl did it in 1997
