GOLF UPDATE

Keith Kucinski, Golf & Green Chair Casey Klossner, Director of Agronomy

Welcome to the 2023 Season! Excellent weather this spring has promoted an increase in soil temperatures and the golf course is benefiting tremendously Our new putting green covers were installed last fall to protect our greens from the harshness of the winter Upon removal of the covers, we were ecstatic to find that the putting greens were in excellent condition for the end of March.

In our estimation, the putting green covers gave the putting greens a 3-4 week “head start” to the growing season This winter was mild, but the plant health benefits were off the charts Below is an unbelievable picture of our 7th green on March 20th:

April was a productive month for our department as well All playing surfaces were aerified on time and on schedule Drill and Fill was also completed during the last week of April The putting greens are nearly 100% healed and are in great standing as we head for the summer months and the core golf season.

Our 2022 Golf Course Enhancement Project is approximately one year out from its completion All closely mown areas and bunkers are growing in well All seeded fescue areas are coming in slowly, but surely, and fescue bunker faces that were renovated last season are starting to really frame our green complexes nicely Now that these renovated areas have had an offseason to overwinter, we will be looking to tighten up mowing heights even more and really dial in playing conditions

The excitement in the department is palpable and the team is looking forward to the upcoming summer season!
