The site is located at the end of the historic district extending from the church in the center of nembro. The original site is half of the current size, and the other half is a public garden. We decided to consider the garden together with the new school and keep the idea of a "floating bridge" considering the location of existing trees and the road. The focus is on how to deal with the volume relationship of medical care (west side), library (floating bridge in the middle) and school (east side) in a more logical way.

The project is an architectural conservation project. The site is located in the Masegra Castle in Sondrio, Italy. The history of the castle can be traced back to the 11th century. It was once used as a military fortress, private residence, and barracks. Now part of the castle has been transformed into a museum, and most of the area needs to be renewed urgently. According to the analysis of the site and the urban environment, there are many schools around the site. We consider that another part of the castle can be converted into a school as well to form a joint teaching with the surrounding schools to provide children with courses that cannot be learned in surrounding schools.

The main focus of the project is sustainability and construction. The design concept is mainly based on the surrounding environment of the site in Nagoya, with a small-sized public building at the bottom and a large-sized residential building at the top. In terms of construction, considering that the project contains a large number of cantilevered structures, the main structural material is a combination of steel and concrete shear walls, and the construction logic of "Vierendeel’s Truss" is adopted. In terms of sustainability, through the analysis of the site’s sunshine and wind direction, we determined the appropriate building orientation and openings, and used controllable panels on the facade to adjust the sunshine. At the same time, we also adopted solar collectors, PV panels, and heat pump system to realize green development of the building.

The project is located in the Italian village of Brugnello, in the valley of the Trebbia River. According to data analysis, the total population and the number of young people in the region have been greatly reduced year by year. At the same time, the region lacks infrastructure and space for children to learn. Based on the above, our design concept for this area is to establish a union school in the area, the main campus (Trebbia Wonderland) centered on the two villages of Marsaglia and Brugnello, radiating to different villages in the entire area (Corte Brugnatella) where sub-school districts can be established to provide different courses to enable students to flow in the whole area Also a new mobility system is proposed in the area for pedestrians, school buses, cars, and bicycles to travel around.

The overall design concept comes from the sentence in the Daodejing( 道 德 经 )-- We work with being, but non-being is what we use( 有之以为利,无之以为用 ). This sentence interprets the relationship between "being" ( 有 ) and "non-being"( 无 ) in space and the interdependent relationship between "being" and "non-being" is also of far-reaching significance in the field of architecture. I hope to complete a local experience of "being" and "non-being" through design and construction, and to build a place that can carry local collective memory and sense of place.

19

Concept

Site Analysis Location : Wankou Village, Qianwu Town, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province

The concept is inspired by the abundant fabric of the village and the space composition of the Guangfu architecture, which remind me of the sentence in the Daodejing( 道德经)-- We work with being, but non-being is what we use( 有之以为利,无之以为用 ).

The site is located at the entrance of Wankou village, adjacent to the 765 county road to the west, and can reach Qianwu town directly to the north within 2KM. As for the landscape view, the west side is a large field with an open view, the east side is surrounded by mountains with pleasant cenery.

This sentence interprets the relationship between "being" ( 有 ) and "non-being"( 无 ) in space --"being" gives people convenience, and "non-being" plays true role. For example, when making pottery, the clay is first mixed and then hollowed out to form a "vessel". What is the function of the "vessel"? The essence lies in the empty part in the middle, which is "non-being". ( 埏埴以为器 , 当其无 , 有器之用 )

In terms of road traffic, the north and south are the main roads to the village. In addition, in the future planning, the village development will also be carried out on the north side of the site, which will bring potential north-south crossing people to the site.

The interdependent relationship between "being" and "non-being" is also of far-reaching significance in the field of architecture. Within a building, "non-being" can be a patio, a terrace or a courtyard. Outside the building, "non-being" can be eaves corridor, a laneway, a square. One of the most attractive parts of the village settlement is this "void" space.

The fabic of the village is abundant and he density of buildings in the village is very high, the street aspect ratio presents the form of "one-line sky", which is conducive to reducing the sun exposure and avoiding the rain in the hot summer.

The design is based on the relationship between "being" and "non-being" in Daodejing, and mapping the understanding of "non-being" in the design of architectural space. After the initial disassembly of the building volume (the "being" part), the "non-being" parts of the village, such as the open spaces, traffic structure and internal space of the building, are extracted and re-translated to complete the "non-being" space design such as the open space, road network and plan layout in the site design.

There are many open spaces in the village which are mainly green spaces in front of the house or courtyards in the house, and there is only one public square for the whole people in the village.

The overall logic of the architecture internal space cutting is based on the space prototype obtained from the plan analysis of the Guangfu building. These basic prototypes can be used to obtain cutting prototypes, and then these cutting prototypes are stacked up and down alternately to obtain various spatial composition states, which are based on the spatial composition of local buildings. Then, a more reasonable spatial organization can be selected to form the spatial design of different units of the building.

Since the time immemorial, saunas or bathhouses have played a community role.Space dissolves in steam. Distances collapse, the borders of bodies are rubbed out, and disjecta membra loom through the fog. As for the Turkish bath, a recurrent motif in Western art, inherited Roma bath culture but embraced Islamic culture as well. Nowadays, the baths have been transformed from a place of political sociability into a place of entertainment, the design is focused on the spatial shaping and trying to evoke the memory of turkish historical culture. 23

Background Introduction

Design Process

Because of the special geographical location and history, Turkish culture is a hybrid of roman culture and islamic culture. Turkish bath, as an important activity in Turkish culture history, takes its root in roman bathing culture, but also blends in Muslim characteristics. Nowadays, bath has been transformed into an entertainment, we try to create the bath space by saluting the ancient bathhouse to evoke the turkish historical culture.

L

Site Analysis Location : Pamukkal,Turkey

The site is located in the Pamukkale which is famous for a carbonate mineral left by the flowing water. The ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis was built near the site, from where the ruins of Hierapolis can easily be seen. Known as Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) or ancient Hierapolis (Holy City), this area has been drawing the weary to its thermal springs since the time of Classical antiquity. On the site, there is already a semi-pool with low capacity and a museum for nearby archaeological ruins. The design is trying to use the existing natural resources of the site to expand the pool as a bath and integrate the ruins as a museum as well.

YOUTH COMMUNITY Residence-Office Complex Design Term

2018.10-2018.11

Wu Fei (24953837@qq.com)

The project is to build a residential complex for the youth. As the particularity of this demographic, they have different new needs for home, office and entertainment, which provide the possibility to integrate different interesting spaces in one building. For this reason, the design is mainly focused on the "shared" and "non-shared" spaces. As the site lies just beside a river and a park, the overall concept is extending the landscape to the building by creating a number of platforms, which also provides opportunies for public spaces. 27

Study for Target Group: Young People (Age: 18-34)

Site Analysis

With the advent of architecture industry 4.0, the transformation of social production mode and the integration of multiple disciplines will inevitably have a specific impact on architectural design. Especially in the context of the rapid development of the Internet, "sharing economy" is weakening "ownership" and emphasizing "the right of use". "Sharing" is not a new concept, but as a new model, it is still advancing in various fields. The traditional model and "collaborative sharing" will be mixed for a long time. This design aims to build a residential complex integrating home, office and entertainment for young people, to explore the new needs of this demographic in the new era, and to redefine "shared" and "non-shared" spaces in residential buildings.

The site is located in the Yangpu district of Shanghai and lies just between Tongji University and Fudan University, which ensures an adequate youth population to the site. In the west, there is a park and a river which enable people to have an open landscape views from the site. In addition, in the northeast, three science and technology parks (2 stories high) have been completed. So based on conditions above, the design is trying to organize 3 different flows of people reasonably (public/residents/science park staffs), and mainly focused on how to use the landscape and how to create more diverse and interesting spaces for the youth.

Concept Due to the site is in such a relatively good landscape condition, the design is trying to make the best use of this landscape by creating a series of platforms to extend the landscape up to the building. On the other hand, in order to meet complex needs of the residential population, in addition to diverse platforms, a shared atrium is inserted in the residence. By dividing the hierarchy of different common spaces, residents can find the public space suitable for themselves to a greater extent.
