Erebus

Erebus in Greek mythology, representing darkness, shadow, and the underworld. A non-physical being. He was one of the first to be created from chaos along with his twin Nyx.

He was associated with dreams and sleep as they were believed to be the conduit to the subconscious dimension. As a mythological being, his description was a reminder to all emerging that the darker elements of our persona is required to achieve a fulfilled self-enlightenment.

Graphically, he was portrayed as a Black, winged figure or as a dark non-physical cloud of elements. Otherwise, a walking shadow.

The void and Erebus as the mythological being represented the dark aspects of the universe. Praying and feeding off the darkness and fear that humanity creates, it represents the notions that we wish to hide from societies eyes.

He sits in the realm of possibility, and represents the mysterious components of life. He represents a message; being that we should never cease to discover and explore as the mysteries of the universe are vast and profound.

The overall design intent is the creation of a passage that appears and disappears as required.

The concept of Erebus as the gate keeper for the realm means that as time passes in the infinity, souls travel through the passage to the underworld. The passage as presented will appear from nothing, and present a gate to the traveller and then disappear.

Erebus domain was defined by the void. A timeless and vast open darkness that never ended, depending on nothing but itself.

It was the path through a gate between the living and the dead, and was where following judgement souls would pass through before heading to the afterlife.

The keywords that drew from the descriptions on Erebus were utter emptiness with a neverending space. It was a stasis pod, almost that once entered, and once exited, felt like nothing, had passed for the person trapped or moving through it.

An utterly mysterious place that shouted the unknown and encouraged to open mind observation as a closed mind in a void would lead to insanity

Being the persona of darkness, he was shrouded in a cloud of dark, getting all those who see him lost in his visual appearance.

As he was the gatekeeper that would transfer souls between the living and the dead he was often perceived as a mystical grim reaper, but he did not pass judgement on those who entered it, but rather provided travel for them.

Nyx was a shadowy diety

Chaos, Father of Erebus and Nyx.

Hemera, daughter of Erebus and Nyx would scatter him to bring into the day.

Erebus was more of a premodial god.

The void plays upon the fear and deep emotions of the visitors. Darkness thrives upon the despair and concern of the souls that enter.

Hades passes judgement on the souls

Souls enter the void

Erebus greets those entering and provides travel through the void gates towards the underworld.

Once entered, time moves in an infinite scenario and isnt perceived. Centuries could pass in the void and once entered you would be none the wiser.

When the day is done Erebus and Nyx come across the sky and provide the darkness.

Gates to the void begin from nothing and open into existance.

The gates open and present themselves for souls to pass through.

As the sun hits the model we gain a better understanding of the shadows and effects the light has on the curvature.

The fold perforations allow for light to pass through and therefore create a unique pattern.

The curvature is extenuated when the void is in full form. The muscle componant pulls the skin to open the uniformaty and create the gateway.
