Site / Project program This project is located at Yantai, Shandong. This area were started to be developed into the china WINE sources, including lots of international company.

The Client was based on personal interest and investment to develop one of this area. I was joined at early 2015 when the building was completed the main concrete structure and started the secondary structure and design stage.

This is a 30,000 sq. ft architecture including 20,000 sq. ft wine factory and 10,000 sq. st. residential area for his own family. This project will be completed at early 2017 and interior and landscape

I joined this project during the main structure completion.

I was handling the building secondary design directly with the local contractor.

Since it is a rural private investment, i develop the building design with the contractor for every section of building element.

The contractor management is very different with the other urban project. It is required to use every resource you have and lead up the contractor to the standard contract requirement. This the greatest task of this project.

After the architecture completion, now I am working on the landscape and interior works.

During the coordination with a new Wine Maker, the spacial arrangement has been rescheduled.

Master planning and landscape design Zoning

We have provided the new zoning analysis and planning of the site to Client for further business development. During the cost and investment, this design is being on hold.

In the original proposal, we have provided a access planning with 3 roads, Winery guest, Personal access and winery use with detail construction design(see below) and LDI contraction drawings.

Due to the cost and investment, the Master planning has been changed. It is also within the duty.

We use the dried wine color to connect the all spaces. Since the large scale of building, we have to reduce the wall finishing cost and materials application.

Wine Making This color arrangement is base on th concept of wine making from upper. It is reflected the gravity flow of the production line.

New Suqian City – Sustainability for further development 宿迁新发展– 可持续发展 全新城市规划 Suqian, an agent city about undergoing a major transformation to become a 22nd century.

Valuable urban development have been built around the city. To have a landmark that connects the new development together will be the icing on the cake.

This landmark will be the place where the economical activities meet the cultural need and the daily life of Suqian’s people.

Currently, the city – from Luoma Lake harbor to the city park- and the flower farm is the back bone of Suqian’s people everyday life. And in the middle of this framework will be the largest FLOWER MARKET in the region.

The FLOWER MARKET will spread along the main crossroad of the city. This new complex is located at the end of the path, resembling a blossoming flower and it will be a great meeting place for everyone to see the flower. Either it is the starting point of travel this Suqian City or as a relax end of a journey after seeing the flower.

宿迁花卉业 Local flower trading industry has become the backbone of the city and Suqian is now a significant flower and related products trading center for surrounding area. The FLOWER MARKET will seeks to be a vibrant city center, allowing the neighborhood to gather in the FLOWER MARKET during different time of the day. Trading businessman can visit the market during the day time to buy flesh flowers, while housewives can pick up fresh flowers to decorate their homes. The FLOWER MARKET is also a great place for the public over the weekends. Young couples can spend weekends wandering around the FLOWER MARKET and enjoying a nice meal in the city center. Families can spend some time in the FLOWER HOTEL

晨光中的花墟 Hustle and bustle in the flower market, as loads of people walk by during the day.

5 individual buildings comprising of layered outlook create a unique landscape at the edge of the FLOWER MARKET. Shopping mall building together with a cinema and F&B building provide wide variety entertainment for the public while the officer tower will provide support to the merchants in the FLOWER MARKET and other prime office location in the new CBD. Tourists visiting the city can also stay in the hotel facilitating visit to the FLOWER MARKET and nearby tourist attractions.

The FLOWER MARKET will be a great step for the development of Suqian, transforming a traditional flower market to an architecture with iconic value and for public use.

盛放烟花下的都市花会 During special occasion, the flower market can be converted into a special stage for traditional celebration, where walkways can be used for different events and the beautiful outlook of the architecture as background for fireworks.

Site / Project nature This is rural project, part of a temple renavation.

The requirements are : i. keeping the existing plant at the midden, ii. including 1 tea room, 1 storage, iii. adding a second floor, and iv. using wooden structure.

First of all, we localed the volume by the site condition and extended the meditation hall at the upper floor.

Therefore, the issue of this project is design the relationship between the architecture and the surrounding under the BUDDHISM. Model picture / Existing design

This structure have to be minimize, hidden in the forest.

And we want to control the maintenance period is 20 years. So, the roof top is a slope and joint system should as less as possible.

Massing The lower part structure have to be showed its weight and hidden in the nature at the same time.

We decided to make it have lesser translucence. And, at last, we use the vertical wood sticks to control the weight and translucence.

The Upper Structure We decided to use a big sloped roof to replace the old design. Because it increase the water proofing and more center gravity inside the meditation hall.

So, the massing divided into three parts : the heavy lower part; the in-between part - handrail system; and the roof part.

The Primary Joint Structure There are a lot of chooses of the roof structure design.

Under the economic and construction consideration, we picked up this design scheme.

As showed at the 2., there are 4 identical metal plant. This is a isosceles triangulation system in section and a girl system in horizontal plan. The material, wooden bamboo is a 2hr fire-proofed structural material.

Brief Issue / Situation of Users

30k workers in each circle

This is a community center for 300,000 people in a new city, which built for the factory company Foxconn. As the Outline zoning plan shown, there are 8 circles and 300,000 people within this city.

Our design purpose is reduce the experience different between the original life and new one.

There were over 400 cultural buildings are taken down when this city were started developed. At the end, for a requirement of units, lots of typical residential were built. Although there are very good outlooking, the environment inside is still under the line.

On the other hand, the people are going to this city are came from the rural farm.

There is 25,000 sq.m. GFA required for the follow functions: Commercial area, Wet and dry market, Cultural center, office, Community health center, Elderly day-care center, Community service center, Committee office, Retail office, Police station and Sports area.

Beside it, there is no another commercial area in the residential area but some small shop under the towers. This complex is the only one.

Families of 30k workers 1. There is offering 40,000 people’s community service within this 15,000 sq.m., over 30,000 sq.m. of G.F.A. is required form the government.

2. And we are focusing on the non-economic activities.

3. So, we hide the society functions at the bottom part and group the cultural and leisure part on the towers. The upper landscape should as big as it can.

A. It is facing a massive and stager urban architecture, which is designed by Zaha Hadid. Therefore, a relatively simple and silent structure is needed for the people who living in a new, modern and empty city.

Massing control development

The local government building in China The architectural solution B. Because it is a low budget project but a lot of requirement, especial the responding of urban image. We design a variation facade by the sunlight. The deepness between the exterior wall, gray brick wall and glass, and the brick feature is casting a shadow that changing our elevation.

Dividing the Massing

Because this is a town development project, the budget of each community center is very limited. Therefore, we wanted to have a passive variation feature. It is planed by the function.

But, at the end, a patten elevation and a kind of between movement and stable facade is the most suitable way of this government building.

Taking into account the requirements of commercial business, most of the two-story building area available to commercial use, internal office space for local public services. Vertical transportation - were provided by the arrival of the first floor of their respective owners.

This upper urban space can directly change the perspective of human relatively far the city and the noise. It can be make sure the enough space of the sports and green space. Due to the political reason the secondary space have to be controlled. Therefore, we kept the number of tower in three.

When we are standing on the platform, we are moved into a urban scale that different with the street level. That can bring people off from the dying daily life in the factory.

Beijing City / Old Town District This project is located at the east of forbidden city and north of the Wong Fu Jing Main Street. It was a factory came from the word of the first leadership of the republic of china, 毛澤 東, and his word “ here will be 4,000 chimneys are set in this city. After 70 years, the fail of the factory and the development of cultural indenture, such as 798 art district and the rest of slimier developments. This one is located in the central old town, next to the old residential, Alley. This kind of factory building is a kind of the historical and cultural symbol of the modern Beijing, an city ruled by five different governments.

Client / Tradition Technology Maintainer Wu Youg is company aim to keep the China traditional fabric making technology, there are including the north, south and the west district. Also, all of their products are custom made.

Therefore, the special requirement is they shall service one custom at the one time.

The low energy program

This project is a housing for people in all age, the requirement is min. 50 units with 3 type of room types, such as studio flat, single bed and double bed.

This project is located at center of old town. It had been strongly separated by the city grid system, away from the other estate and living area.

To re-link this old urban space the current city flow is my core vision of this project. It help the people who living in my building also with the neighborhood.

The shift of the town center.

Site Context - Tai Po, one of the early developed town in Hong Kong. The Tai Po Old Market station was the meeting point of the main market of north of old Hong Kong when the Hong Kong cities development was started.

As the time pass and the new town, station has been developed, this old market is still running very strong. But there is no population move over there, it is getting older and the younger are not using it anymore.

A SELF SUPPORTING SOCIETY Data from 2011, Census Results report, HKSAR

As the one of the oldest town in Hong Kong, there are different density residential area in this district. There are different classes of Hong Kong residents who maybe the new immigrants, the second or third generation of immigrants or the originals of Hong Kong. They have different career form and mostly work out of town including the both parents and left children and elderly in this small old town. They are having very different community bonding in town.

As arm to stronger the connectivities, I wanted to strategically merge the elderly and younger generation. They look after each others and share the activities like the old time. Once the space and politically allow and permit they occupation such as the traditional culture work in the public space, which mean more community activities are allowed and possibilities for our city. Then the clan grow up as the pass.

Concept development

The space of local people life are divided into indoor and outdoor, building and, street. It is very dierent from our memories, specially on the elderly. They will only meet the others on the street, restaurant or shopping mall, which is not very welcome for the lower movability people. Therefore, the elderly are getting less care,except from family and social workers.

So I want to transfer the street, landscape and building into a FOLDING VILLAGE. By creating the semi-translucence wall of dwelling and opening and sharing space surrounding the house. The Elderly will have a better ventilation and lighting condition, also the activities space. I will call it - the FIREFLIES HOUSE.

The construction detail 1. Translucent polyester-fibre insulation encase the entire wood frame building. Life of the elderly a closed environment, so to achieve a translucent film material composed with natural light in a room,Bring energy savings of lighting power.

2. Walls and ceilings with a double membrane, the air conditioning and energy saving air conditioners, in order to improve the insulation performance In order to improve the heat insulating effect of the building of the warm air circulating in the double membrane wall, results in energy savings.

3. Installing windows and velcro endometrium, simplifying replacement parts, can be easily replaced, also simplifies the replacement of insulation.

The ARCHITECTURAL CENTER between Cities

The building is named , St. Francis Street. It is a 80’s high-end residential area in the Hong Kong old town, Wan Chai.

As the time pass, the neighbor town, Admiralty, was been developed into the CBD of Hong Kong.

In 21s, the town development had been shifted to Wan Chai, one of the oldest district of Hong Kong. It recorded lots of Hong Kong urban development history and transformation changing in this moment.

This project is located at the center of the St. Francis Street, the edge between two cities.

By find out the nature of the architecture center and the need of urban space, it is easy to be find out that the whole urban could be a gathering space of this area. It is ready for transform to any activity space of people need.

By comparing the 2 diagrams above, there are different type of services and activity for two independent groups of people, resistance and visitors/office clerks.

The daily office clerks occupied the day time and the resistance and visitor enjoy the happy hour at the night time. It allowed the different restaurants survived in this historical town and lot of potential high-end product shops started up over here.

A unique cultural space was weaved by those people and urban space.

A large architectural space

A iconic object is a evolution direction of the small town to record, transform and distribute the culture. I believe it is the duty of the architecture in here.

A floating platform is a state for the event city. It is a very large negative space for people living in this town, a upper street space. And it is a solid statement of architecture to superimpose with the urban contents. It is the image of urban architecture.
