The Power of Positive Thinking Making Plans to Move Forward by Allison Feehan, N.D., D.Psc, CRMT

Just drifting along, day after day with no real solid plan for moving forward in life. Most of us do not have a one-year plan let alone a plan for any long-term dreams. Your plans may include getting out of debt, becoming more spiritual, more positive or abundant, or just completing a goal of accomplishing something you’ve set your sights on. Are you living your dream or are you trying to fulfill someone else’s dream? Sometimes we get wrapped up in the idea or thought of another person’s dreams and we think, “I’ll go that way too because it seems to be working well for them!” Making plans to move forward in your life will help you to thrive and stay the course.

Self-fulfilling prophecies can go either way. Whether you are hoping it will never come to be or that you will be Allison Feehan successful. Whether you think you N.D., D.Psc, CRMT can, or you can’t you are right either Owner of Integrative way. Hopefully this confliction stops Healing and Wellness 732.202.6797 at you and hasn’t been absorbed by 523 Main Avenue the entire family. Family and friends Bay Head, NJ can also make or break how well the dream comes to life. Get the family or your friends on board. You should always ask for help anyway. The more of your tribe you engage the quicker and more successful your dreams will come true. Prayer and meditation are a great means to ask for help. Meditation connects you to your Higher Self and higher densities and frequencies bringing you closer to The All, our Creator, God. Prayer is the very same concept. We may just openly ask for more help in prayer versus meditation. Your actions will speak louder than your words, but you do need to put that frequency out there and set the intention. It is what we intend to do!

In the new year we always set goals which is fantastic, but those goals might be so short lived and short term. Target for a one-year, two-year, three-year, etc. plan. Long term goals create purpose and a sense of being. Creating visions and adventures propel you forward into knowing yourself deeper, pleasing yourself and fulfilling dreams we never thought possible. Ask. Believe. Receive. mantra has been successfully used by so many and has been taught by old teachers and scriptures. Our minds are so very powerful, and the power of vision and belief is creating your reality. Like attracts like. What you envision for yourself is possible in the infinite frequency of the Universe. We are consistently bombarded by negative thoughts and emotions on a daily basis. Fear, anxiety, and depression vibrate at a very low emotional frequency and this frequency will call to the Universe for more. Think of your thought patterns and actions like a radio frequency sending out waves of communications to everything and everyone. The call that comes back from everything and everyone will match that frequency. You know the exact feeling when you enter a room and meet a new person and you instantly know if you ‘click’ or if they don’t like you. You can feel it. You accept the information in that frequency and may adapt how you approach the person further. More conversation, or turn on your heels and walk away. Find your perfect ‘radio’ frequency for your dreams and goals. Tune-in to it, envision it and discuss it positively in your mind each day. Make it your mantra. Ask it. Believe it. Receive it.

January 2019

Action every day towards your goal allows for the plan to grown and be followed. The plan may need to be tweaked along the way or after the first year. The key is to not get too caught up in all the ‘how’s” of how it will get done. The Universe has an amazing way of attracting what you need once you set the intention and put the actions into play. The Universe can be so amazing at making things happen that we couldn’t have thought of a better turn out ourselves. Set your dreams and goals on paper. Create a vision board or a collage of pictures on your phone that help you to visualize your dreams. Pray or meditate about it. Ask for help. Take action. Give it up to the Universe for your highest and greatest good. Continue to sprinkle positivity around it and water it with your thoughts and watch it grow, morph, and come true. You are your reality.

80 styles. 3 constructions. 1 solution.

I was anxiously anticipating the cold weather to arrive as justification to make big pots of soup. My family loves soup for dinner, and I love the simplicity and warmth. It’s one of he few meals I actually get to eat hot, after serving my family. Most soups need a small side, and due to the carbohydrate level this one has, I chose a chopped kale and apple salad. For those of you unfamiliar with leeks they are in the onion family and grow in sandy soil, so be sure to soak and rinse several times after slicing to remove all the grit. I used an immersion blender to create a creamier soup but that step can be skipped if you prefer your meals to have some texture. ENJOY!

In a large pot place the bacon and cook till crisp over low/ medium heat. (*Bacon can burn quickly, and you will render more fat on a lower heat than a high one.) Remove the bacon and drain most of the fat, leaving 1-2 TBSP. in the bottom of the pot. Add leeks and cook over medium heat for 4 minutes. Add garlic and broth. Stir and add potatoes. Cook for 35 minutes over medium heat until potatoes are tender. Add milk, nutmeg and black pepper.

Rover Rescue Dog Park Etiquette by Lauren Kehoe

Dog parks can be an amazing place. It is much safer when all owners are responsible and aware of their dog and surroundings. There are many factors to consider when taking your dog to a park. If your dog growls, hides from, barks excessively, or runs away from other dogs there, they might not be comfortable in that environment. Even if a dog is dog friendly, dog parks can be crowded and overwhelming places. Fear or aggression regarding other dogs is more likely to be seen there compared to single dog on dog interactions.

to its surroundings, but allows you to check the fencing for any potential holes or weak spots. Try and keep your dog from rushing new dogs entering the park to give Lauren Kehoe the new dog a few minutes to explore. It’s is an avid great to practice recall training with your animal lover dog so you can utilize it at the park. If your and dog owner. dog comes when called, it can get him away from fights and overwhelming situations. Recall training is good to practice in a fenced in area when alone with your dog. You can put on a long leash in a distraction free space if you don’t have a yard, or do it indoors. In its most basic form, recall training is teaching your dog to respond and come when called. It is important to make coming to you the best thing possible, so use whatever reward is necessary such as high value treats, toys, pets. Every dog is different, so some things motivate some more than others.

If your dog is friendly and comfortable in a multi-dog setting, there are some easy dog park etiquettes to follow to ensure the experience is safe and enjoyable for everyone. Toys should not be brought, even if your dog is fine with them. Some dogs have resource guarding issues even if they are friendly with other dogs. It is better to leave all toys at home; some dog parks even prohibit bringing them. With treats, make sure there is no one around if you are giving them to your dog, and be careful not to drop any and leave them on the ground.

When at the park, always have eyes on your dog. While it’s okay for people to mingle, the main point of a dog park is for the dogs to socialize, exercise and explore. If everyone keeps an eye on their dog, it helps everybody stay safe. It is also important to ask another owner before petting their dog. Some dogs have handling issues or are sensitive being touched certain places. Some may be shy or weird with new people if not introduced properly. Communicating first with the owner avoids unnecessary stress for you and the dogs. Dog parks are a ton of fun. They are a good opportunity for your dog to explore a new area full of interesting smells and make new friends. They allow lots of space for exercise and play. If your dog is good with other dogs, up to date on shots, and friendly with people, it is a great option for enrichment.

The first time you go to a park, it can be good to walk your dog around the perimeter on leash. This not only helps a dog get used

Shore Decor In Living Color By Ashleigh Young Santamaria

For example, I love love love how coral doors can add a warm pop of color to both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Every year, the NJ-based Pantone Color Institute releases its “Color of the Year”. The color is chosen by a team of experts who comb the world looking at various industries including art, fashion, design, sporting events, social media platforms, lifestyles and travel destinations to see what dominant color trends and influences have emerged.

Coral accent walls can also serve as a stunning and warm backdrop for any room in the house. And, of course, if you prefer to take a lower commitment approach to pulling 2019’s hottest color into your home you can do so with towels, pillows, art and other fun accessories like the “Fabulous Dane” painting by artist Heather Gauthier or the lush Pottery Barn towels, both shown opposite.

On December 5th, the Institute officially annointed “Living Coral (16-1546)” as 2019’s color of the year so no doubt we’ll be seeing more of this lively shade springing up in fashion, products, packaging and of course, home design.

Although many design blogs will recommend pairing coral with light blues, teal and grey, don’t be afraid to incorporate coral into your current décor. This color is very versatile and works with a variety of color schemes. Happy 2019 and happy decorating!

A coral hue with golden undertones, “Living Coral” is said to symbolize our emotional need as individuals and a society for optimism and joyful pursuits, and to welcome and encourage lighthearted activity and playful expression. Based on the ocean’s coral reefs which offer sustenance and shelter, this nature-based hue is a counter-balance to digital technology and social media which continue to take increasingly large roles in our lives and created a yearning for warm, energizing and authentic experiences that bridge the gap between real and online life. Living Coral first emerged in the 1950s and 60s where it became a popular color choice in cars, accessories and fashion, and has always had a place in coastal home décor. However now that this retro shade is having its moment again, we have permission to make it more of a focal point versus accessory in our home.

Fashion Frenzy My Love of Leopard

By Denise Brady Acanfora, Certified Personal Stylist and Owner, The Urban Exchange

I am not a cat person. I am dog person – always have been. I grew up with Schnauzers. When my kids were ready for a dog we got a Schnauzer. I love our kooky girl, KoKo. Even though I am a dog lover I do hold a special place in my heart for that one big cat - the leopard. She gives me all the feels. Well, all the fashion feels! I kinda feel like my love of leopard is similar to how Forrest Gump’s best good friend Bubba felt about shrimp. He listed all the tasty ways to cook and eat shrimp. I can list all the fun and fashionable ways I wear leopard. I have a leopard baseball cap, a leopard tee, a leopard sweater, a leopard coat, leopard pants , a leopard tote bag and quite a few pairs of leopard shoes- of course, I don’t wear them all at the same time! Just like everything else in life – too much of a good thing is no good for you. Too much chocolate and you are chubby. Too much tequila and you are tipsy. Too much leopard and you look lousy.

days when even I am challenged by what to wear. On those days I keep it simple. Jeans, white tee and black blazer. Sounds too basic for someone in the fashion field? Well, that’s when I add leopard mules! It’s my not- so- secret styling weapon. This print packs a punch and elevates any look. Through the years this print has remained the same. Howeverhow it has been portrayed and perceived shifts with the times. It was a fashion favorite amongst the stylish set in the 1920’s and 1930’s. It took a dip in popularity when it was perceived as trashy and flashy because of campaigns like Frederick’s of Hollywood. It was back in favor in the ‘70s and ‘80s as musicians rocked the leopard look on and off stage. Leopard fashions faltered again thanks to characters like Peg Bundy who took the look to ‘tart’ instead of tasteful. This fabulous feline print has gone from high fashion to low class and back again. But – for me – it’s always in fashion.

I am intrigued by this big cat and her beautiful print. I am drawn to what this fierce feline represents. It’s more than just a fashion statement – it’s a feeling. The distinctive markings serve to camouflage the big cats and allow them to blend in with their surroundings when they are hunting prey. In life – however- it’s quite the opposite. Wearing this distinctive pattern allows you to stand out and be noticed. I love what Jo Weldon says about the gal that wears this print. “She’s not necessarily saying that she is a predator, but she sure isn’t prey.”

Leopard was once reserved for royalty and warriors. It served as a symbol of wealth and power. So – embrace your inner feline. Add a touch of leopard to your wardrobe and rule your fashion game like a queen. Remember – leopards lack the ability to purr – they can only roar. Go put on some leopard and roar!

I ‘get dressed’ for a living. How I present myself is a big part of my job. People respond to what I am wearing. It’s a way for me to connect with my customers and consignors. But – there are

Happy New Year! While January brings each of us a new start, our kids are already deep into their school year, but it’s not too late to implement some healthy changes for them. While most of us know breakfast is an important start for the day, what we choose to eat is also important. So that cup of munchkins may not count the way you were hoping it would. Childhood obesity is at one of the highest rates, and so is childhood malnutrition. This means that while we are providing high calorie energy-dense foods, these foods are lacking essential nutrients that support our children’s psychomotor development. It’s important to remember that brain development occurs in various stages during the first 20 years of an individual’s life. While the early years are important, the brain undergoes a period of reorganization during adolescence. So no worries, if nutrition hasn’t been a priority, it’s not too late to start. Here are some of the most important nutrients, and how they correlate to brain function. *(The following is an abstract from the research referenced below.) Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids - Healthy fats are essential to brain structure development, synapse, and neural transmission. But all fats are not created equal, so if you want your child to be able to receive, and process information, and then send a response, your child needs these in his diet. (..and believe me, you want your child to be able to do those things!) — Flaxseeds, walnuts, salmon, beef, avocado, pumpkin seeds and soybeans are good sources Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid - These nutrients promote stem cell differentiation, nerve conduction, and protection from neuron degeneration. — Stick to foods that naturally contain folate as opposed to heavily fortified foods. These include lentils, chick peas, asparagus, spinach and other legumes. — B12 foods beans, poultry, fish, dark leafy greens, papayas and cantaloupe Zinc and Iron - These minerals promote immunity and regulate brain growth. Severe deficiency is related to decreased language, fine motor and attention skills. Too much iron can also be toxic, so talk to you doctor about the right dosage for your child. — Zinc can be found in shellfish, beef, lamb, spinach, squash seeds and chickpeas. — Iron is best found in red meat, pork poultry beans, dark leafy greens and dried fruits Iodine - Iodine deficiency is linked to cognitive, speech and hearing impairments. The presence of salt in our diets does not protect against iodine deficiency, as food processors are not required to add iodine to their salt supplies. Iodine is generally only added to table salts and more recently some brands of sea salt. — Sea vegetables/sea weed, scallops, cod, baked potato (skin on) and cow’s milk, eggs, bananas and cranberries are good sources. It’s important to remember that if you want your child to eat nutritiously, then it’s best if you do as well. You will quickly notice that you feel better, more alert, and energized. These benefits occur in adults as well as kids, however kids have more neuroplasticity (the brains ability to adapt or reorganize itself throughout life) So while it’s never too late, the sooner you start the better! *Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, March 2013; “The role of nutrition children’s neurocognitive development from pregnancy through childhood”. Sea Shorties Truth be told, I’m glad to see this year go. I’m sure I can’t be the only one thinking this. I haven’t felt this way since 2012. So I guess my overall record is good. But no matter how the actual year goes, I still find New Years Eve to be a little sad. I can’t really put my finger on why. I don’t think I’ve always felt this way, however the older I get, the less I enjoy time passing us by, and so quickly at that. I also prefer beginnings to endings. Yet this night has always felt more like the end of one year, rather than the beginning of another. Last year just had too many endings for me. Some more sad than others and some for the best, but endings, nonetheless. It’s all good though. As am I. I’m just reflecting. I guess some years are meant to be reminders of our own resilience and I guess my turn came around again. And you know what? I’m pretty darn resilient. As are you. So here’s to all of us and our strength within. I have high hopes for 2019, for myself and all of you. Stay safe. Be happy. And make it count. — Christina Callahan

YES!

Get to the Root of the Resolution by Lynn O’Hara

Subscribe Today! Act NOW and receive 12 months for $9.95!

Here we are at the start of another new year. Time sure flies! It feels like it was just the start of 2018 and here we are bidding it a fond farewell. Did you make and keep any of the changes you had in mind for the New Year last year? Are you looking to make changes for this year? Before you start writing down resolutions you have no intention on keeping I want you to consider something.

When we come up with resolutions we often do it in haste. We think about the things we are unhappy with in our lives and resolve that this will be the year that we finally lose weight, get fit, reign in the finances and put our financial house in order, stop smoking, stop drinking….. you name it. How often are you realistic about what it would entail to make the changes you cavalierly write down year after year? I’m not trying to be a smart Alec here. It’s really, really tough to make some changes and these are usually the ones we attempt year after year. There are reasons you are finding it hard to make certain changes. So here is what I want you to consider; how committed are you to feeling better? Take some time with this. Chances are you feel very committed to making the changes needed in order to feel better but listen to your inner world carefully. Listen for the tiny voices that don’t really want to do what is needed to feel better. I don’t mean to imply that you like not feeling good but rather that there are parts of you who enjoy overeating, smoking, spending, drinking etc. If you check inside and listen closely you’ll here parts that have no interest in doing the work required to make change happen. We all have these parts and ignoring them doesn’t work. Take for example the effort to lose weight. The parts of people that like to soothe with food will have no interest in the restricting of intake in any way, shape or form. In order to make a lasting change this person will have to work with the parts that use food to soothe and will have to work with whatever is creating discomfort that needs soothing. So if you think in terms of being committed to change this one will require some exploration of emotions. That is far different than trying to force yourself to not overeat. Consider that if the change was going to be easy you would have already done it. The fact that a resolution gets repeated year after year is a good indication that something else needs to be done, that the issue requires a different way of thinking about it and a different approach to change. These changes are often the ones that require uncomfortable work. With this in mind the question of how committed you are to feeling better takes on a whole new meaning. Try thinking of those resolutions from this perspective and see what comes up. You may be surprised! Until next time, eat healthy, be happy.

Back to Earth A Magical New Year to Keep Your Resolution by Natalie Berko

Many of us make the mistake of focusing too much on the outside form rather than the internal condition. What’s important is our internal experience, whether we choose to experience fear or love. Many people approach manifestation from a place of “how can I get something Natalie Berko to feel better?” Rather, the focus should Certified be “How can I feel better and thus be an Crystal Healer energetic match for attracting more greatness into my life?” The difference is the emphasis must be placed on healing the internal condition, not obtaining a lover or a new car. Below are five key focuses for manifesting greatness into your life and achieving those New Year’s resolutions. Practice these steps while making sure to stay committed to the goal of feeling good first and attracting stuff second. Remind yourself that when you feel good, you are energetically attracting greatness into your life. When your primary function is to be happy then whatever comes to you is just the icing on the cake.

Every year we find ourselves setting New Year’s resolutions with stars in our eyes and confetti on our shoulders. Some wishes come true, while others are a repeated challenge that gets packed away for next year with the holiday decorations. Old school “resolutions” tend to be general and vague things such as “lose some weight” or “be healthier”. Often we don’t really set powerful intentions for what we want to experience, feel, and embody. And rarely do we put an effective plan in place to make our wishes happen. This is the reason why so many of us end up dropping resolutions even before the ball drops! We are always manifesting, each thought we have creates an energy flow within and around our physical beings. The word “abracadabra” literally translates to “it will be created in my words”. There is so much power we hold in our thoughts and the crux of getting your wishes manifested. Our intentions create our reality, so simply recognizing a low-level though negatively can affect your life is a powerful first step toward changing your experiences. Begin your manifesting process by getting honest about how negative thoughts, energy and feelings of disbelief block you from receiving what you desire. Once you are clear about any blocks, you can begin to clean them up to clear space for positive manifestations to occur.

Focus One: Clearing Space

Take time to release any anxieties or disbeliefs in your power to be happy. Try a daily meditation practice allowing the universe to set you free from limiting thought patterns. Begin dream journaling and stay open for signs from the universe. Trust in the process the more you clean your thoughts and energy, the more positive experiences you will attract into your life.

Focus Two: Get Clarity

Clarity is so important when it comes to manifesting your desires. You must have clear intentions for what you want to call in or else you can manifest things you don’t want. Focus on what you desire and then make a list of all that goes along with it. Be as detailed as possible, this list helps you clarify your intentions and access a vibrant mental picture of what you desire. When you get clear on how you want to feel, you can begin to access that feeling. That feeling is what makes the manifestation come into form.

Focus Three: Think It, Feel It, Believe It!

Take your clear intention and spend time every day sitting in the feeling of what it is that you desire. You can access the feeling through visioning exercises or call on the feeling when you’re in nature or doing a form of exercise you love. Let the thought inform the feeling and let the feeling take over your energy. The more you feel the feeling of what you desire, the more you believe it is on the way.

Focus Four: Relax

In order to truly manifest your desires into form, you have to relax. A watched pot never boils, the same is true with manifestation. Believe in yourself stay calm those who are certain of the outcome can afford to wait and wait without anxiety.

Focus Five: Let the Universe do it’s Magic

Know that the Universe is at work and has your back. When you’re in the know, you no longer vibrate energy of fear or disbelief. As any remaining disbelief wilts away, wanting is replace by knowing. Getting into the know happens naturally. When you practice the first four focuses you will clean house, get clear and feel happier. This process is healing and powerful, and it leads to a deep inner knowing that you are right where you need to be. Accepting your greatness in this moment is what manifests more greatness. In time the universe catches up with your energy and your desires come into form.
