As I write this my birthday is quickly approaching. I love my birthday and can usually stretch the celebrations out for a week or so – longer if it’s a milestone birthday! Lately – I’ve had gifting on my mind. Not the typical – wrapped in a box with a pretty bow- kind of gifting though. More the spiritual gifting kind. Let me explain. When the shop is full of ladies enjoying themselves and chatting with us and each other I often hear “it always looks so nice in here” and “can I take this outfit off of the mannequin – I love the whole thing!”I usually respond with a giggle and say “that’s my spiritual gifting – everyone has a gift – and that’s mine.” At first it might seem silly to say fashion and styling are my spiritual gifts. But – when you stop and follow it all the way through it’s actually much more meaningful than that. like work to me. Because it’s my spiritual

gifting. Paperwork - on the other hand – is work for me. Technology – is work for me. Because it’s not my spiritual gifting. Necessary – for sure- but not my gift. You’ll know it’s your gift because it won’t feel like work. You will be engaged and interested and motivated to keep getting better at that thing. Your passion will lead you down the path to your gift. Your gift allows you to show up as the best version of yourself. How fabulous would it be if we all embraced our gifts and shared them with others? It may be my birthday – but- my wish is for you. I wish for you to unwrap your gift and enjoy it! Denise Brady Acanfora Certified Personal Stylist and Owner, The Urban Exchange Our gifts aren’t meant to be hidden. They are meant to be shared with the world.

Fashion is the wrapping paper for the gift. It’s what makes the gift look so pretty and intriguing. It’s what draws you in. My actual gift is creating community. My actual gift is building women up and showing them ways to look and feel their best. That’s meaningful. That’s a true gift. One for which I am most grateful. And more than happy to share. As Steve Harvey says, “Your job is not your gift. Your gift is something that is connected to you whether you are working or on vacation with your family or even alone.” We are all meant to recognize our gift, study it, practice it and most importantly…use it! What a shame to be given a beautiful gift that ends up on a shelf being saved for later. Embrace your gift and use it every day. Then share your gift with others. Don’t know what your gift is? Follow your interests! What do you enjoy doing? When you have free time what do you choose to do? What do you enjoy so much that you lose track of time while you are doing it? Start there. As my father-in-law always said “you have to speak to people in a language they understand.” The universe/spirit/energy/ God is speaking to you. It’s whispering in your ear. It’s speaking to you through your interests. That’s a language that you understand. It’s telling you to embrace your interests. There’s a gift wrapped up for you in there.

Whatever interests you – learn more about it. Whatever interests you – study it. I am always reading magazines, looking at beautiful social media posts and checking out my favorite influencers and their blogs. It serves as inspiration and allows me to up my merchandising skills. Which then creates conversations and connection in the shop. Whatever interests you – practice it. I often play around with different looks on the mannequins. I try different filters and techniques for photographing and posting to social media. I move things around, I paint , I redecorate all in order to keep our customers interested and engaged. Whatever interests you – become the best you can at doing that thing. I listen to podcasts every morning. I read books on fashion, design, decorating, lifestyle and quite frankly any form of creativity. I do a monthly business coaching session and a monthly life coaching session so that I am always working toward my goals. And none of this feels
