MEDICAL CANNABIS CONNECTION A pioneer in medical marijuana, Dr. Anthony Anzalone (NJ) leads the discussion of his show, “Medical Cannabis Connection”. This is a show for public discussion about how medical cannabis has changed so many lives. Dr. Anzalone will take callers during every podcast. Each hour will be categorically driven. For example, shows like “Seizures and medical cannabis” for instance. Dr. Anzalone has had thousands of patients, many of whom came from pain management and taking highly addictive opiates. Dr. Anzalone’s former patients stopped taking opiates at a 45% rate. Quitting opiates altogether. These are your neighbors and friends who now have an alternative option in states that qualify. Let’s talk medical marijuana. Let’s hear from patients. Let’s talk about the facts. It’s the “Medical Cannabis Connection!”

The Power of Positive Thinking Making Anxiety Your Friend Approximately 40 million Americans – 18% of the population have an anxiety disorder. Anxiety can be explained by so many as; the fear of the unknown to symptomatic of a panic attack. Constant mind racing and “what if’s” is all internal activity. However you describe it, anxiety can be debilitating and a daily struggle. There are ways to use anxiety to your advantage and make it your friend, ending the dreadful feelings. Negative association and perception are related to the word anxiety. When we think we have anxiety or stress or hear that someone else has it it can be viewed as negative. To change this, you have to change your perception. Be proactive while utilizing the power of positive thinking. Start with what you want to eliminate or change and channel your anxious energy into a specific task. Sometimes I get anxious by the length of my action item list. The number of tasks I can acquire surpasses the amount of time I have to complete them. To combat this, I ask for help or chunk the action items down into priority.
Allison Feehan N.D., D.Psc, CRMT Owner of the Coastal Cottage 64 Bridge Avenue Bay Head, NJ 08742
Anxiety can be triggered by different circumstances such as; finances, social encounters, relationships, work environments, etc. It doesn’t discriminate. Don’t view your stress or anxiety as a negative, make it your friend. In order to grow and achieve your goals and dreams, you need to acquire and attract what you want in your life. You have to step out of our comfort zone. If you’re afraid then just do it with fear. Don’t let it immobilize you. Use it as an opportunity to become more. Another suggestion is to ensure you’re getting enough exercise. Whenever you feel that your stress level has increased, use it as an excuse to hit the gym. Movement helps to decrease anxiety and depression; it even reduces stress levels. Not to mention you’ll work on your figure in the process. A win win. Put yourself in challenging situations and outside your comfort zone. Be excited for the process and the journey that comes with this. When I do perform lectures, I always get nervous, but I love to do them because I feel like I’m helping people. I put myself in those nervous brief “stressful” situations because in order to get better I need to keep stepping outside my comfort zone. This helps me grow, be a better communicator, add value, and fulfill my purpose. Facing your fears improves you. Short or long-term anxiety can impact the body physically but long-term may have more negative effects on the body so be sure to nurture yourself. After enduring what you feel is an anxious situation, be sure to be mindful of your physical or emotional state and relax with stretching or meditation. Release and breathe deeply through it until you feel it has subsided a bit. If this still isn’t working, you can try Ignatia amara 30C homeopathy. This can be found at your local health food store or Whole Foods. It soothes emotional strain, i.e. anxiety. Use your anxiety, don’t let it use you. Use it as change to reflect on your present life. Use it as a way to help others, be creative, or embrace a new hobby or purpose. Putting in the effort to help someone or improve your life will help to ease your racing mind and relax your physical being, focusing on other things than worrying. Channel that negative energy into a positive outcome. In health + wellness, Allison

How Do You Know if Physical Therapy is Right for You? People seek physical therapy for a long list of reasons – including everything from sports injuries to auto accidents. Sometimes a doctor will recommend physical therapy as a part of a larger treatment regimen, following a specific injury. Other times, people find their way to physical therapy for their own reasons – often because they’ve tried a number of other things, and are still experiencing symptoms and/or limitations that they’d like to address. A lot of people don’t even consider physical therapy because they don’t think their injury or ailment “qualifies” – but the reality is, physical therapy is a broad discipline that can be effectively applied in a whole range of scenarios. People are often surprised to learn just how many things physical therapy can be used for. For instance, if you have injuries to your shoulder or rotator cuff, PT can be a huge step forward in your recovery. Post-surgical rehabilitation is also a big one. Common sports injuries such as tennis elbow, bursitis, tendonitis, ligament strains and tears, fractures, muscle tears, and so much more – these are examples of problems that can be undeniably helped and improved by engaging with the process of physical therapy. ***It’s also very helpful to know that someone is on your side, cheering for you, and using a depth of specific knowledge and training in order to help you reach your therapy goals. Knowing that you don’t have to go it alone is a valuable part of physical therapy. Staci and Justin are dedicated to helping every patient with their goals and progress. Let us know if you want to give physical therapy a try!

Rover Rescue Making Friends by Lauren Kehoe
Dogs can be just as quirky with their friends as people. Sometimes they meet and become best friends, sometimes there is that one dog they just don’t get along with. Expectations can be set high and often we want our dog to be able to get along with everyone. It’s okay if some dogs are too pushy or energetic for a certain personality. Trying to force dogs to become friends that are not a good match doesn’t work and can even lead to a dog fight. The safest place to introduce dogs is in a neutral location with both on leash. A dog may or may not get defensive in its home environment, so it is better to be safe than sorry. It’s a good idea to have the leashes as loose as possible to let them move around, sniff, etc. Jerking on the leash or tensing up too much can make a dog more nervous. You may have to dance a bit so as not to get tangled, but if it looks okay and are in a fenced in area, dropping the leashes is a great second step. If the dogs show some stiffness, growling, hard staring, or similar uncomfortable behavior, you can walk them away for a minute, distract, and try again. If it continues, it is best to stop, but it could just be an initial reaction. Leaving leashes on for a few minutes is good option in case of an altercation. Observing and staying close is important to preemptively separate dogs if needed. It’s okay for them to be awkward or vocal when trying to figure each other out, but it at times the interaction can get too intense.

Reaching in to pull collars can create wounds or get people bit. It’s hard not to panic, but the clearer headed you are, the safer it is for everyone involved. Maintaining a mellow energy from beginning to end helps your dog feel more comfortable, as they feed off people’s energy. Some dogs get very leash reactive and it is better to let them sniff right away, while others do better parallel walking a bit of a distance away before meeting. Each dog’s personality plays a role and setting up the first meeting for success affects long term friendship potential. Some dogs do better with smaller dogs, bigger dogs, male dogs, female dogs, but there is no set rule. Dogs are individuals and over time we can learn their preferences in dog friends and the best way to meet them.

Shore Decor Summer Blues By Ashleigh Young Santamaria
There’s something about the summer that makes you want to lighten up. Maybe it’s leaving the office a little earlier on a Friday to catch a late afternoon swim in the ocean, or leaving the laundry until tomorrow so you can stay outside just a little bit longer to enjoy the sunset from your porch. For me, summer is when we finally launder and store all the down comforters and exchange them for soft cotton coverlets on our beds and it’s also a perfect time to change up any of winters warmer, redder tones in your home for a cooler and more neutral palette.
I know suggesting using shades of blues this season may seem a bit trite, but funny enough this look has never been fresher (or more refreshing). Blue is everywhere in nature from pale blue skies to rich, dark swimming pools or multi-hued ocean waves. Psychologically, blue evokes feelings of calmness, tranquility and serenity, which seems a perfect way to bring more relaxation into your environment during the summer months whether you’re in the city, at a lake house or at the beach.
Paint it Blue
Paint manufacturer Sherwin Williams actually conducted a color study back in 2017 and found that blue was the color most liked amongst 62% of those polled. This year, some of the more popular colors range from dark, moody blues like Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy to Valspar’s lighter Seattle Haze with hints of grey, but there are honestly no rules when it comes to selecting paint colors other than to find one that makes you happy and that you can live with day to day, like Dunn-Edwards Bank Vault which was used on the wall of this modern cabin in Lake Tahoe by designer Jamie Bush.

Pops of Blue
If you don’t quite feel like committing to painting a wall, there are tons of other ways to incorporate blues into your home décor. As you know from past articles, I’m a huge fan of using simple, easy and inexpensive accessories like throw pillow covers and light cotton blankets to change up the mood of a space and there’s no lack of options to choose from whether you’re shopping online or in your local home goods store. If you’re craving more visual impact, using window coverings or a large area rug in a room can give you a more dramatic pop of color without the commitment of paint.
Blue on Blue
I remember when my husband and I bought a little beach bungalow in Ocean Beach a few years ago, we walked in and saw that all the walls had been painted blue. Back then we thought it looked like a baby’s room and even though it had just been painted we immediately called the painter and had it reverted to a warm, white. If it were today, I might have saved myself some money and leaned into a blue on blue look, choosing more neutral furniture and having some fun with the beachy nautical theme and layering in whites, greys and sand colors. A huge lesson that sometimes it’s better to keep an open mind and see if you can work with a room before spending a lot of money or time changing it. Hopefully this has given you a few ways to bring relaxing blues into your space for the summer. If you do, please share pictures online and tag us at @08742Living. Happy Decorating!

Healthy Morsels, II Summer is Here! by Lynn O’Hara
I got to watch a family of otters swimming around in my lagoon yesterday and this evening a family of swans meandered in, the little ones were hitching a ride on mama’s back. It’s such a great time of year! Another thing I love about the summer is all the fresh vegetables and fruits. There is nothing like fresh vegetables picked hours before you sit down to eat. We are lucky here that we can get a variety of fruits and vegetables all year long but nothing compares to locally grown produce. It is so much more flavorful. If you’re lucky enough to have space for a garden and actually grow your own produce, congratulations! There is something very fulfilling about growing your own food. No worries if you don’t have a garden. You can grow lots of plants in pots on a patio; tomatoes especially do great. If all else fails hit one of the many farmers markets that go on in our area all summer long.
in our lives. What better way than Lynn O’Hara, MS, RD, LPC to break bread with neighbors and Licensed Psychotherapist Registered Dietitian friends? Connection and good will is (732) 899-9312 the only way we are going to overwww.lynnoharalpc.com come the divisiveness we see going on. Let’s use homegrown produce to lead the way! Third, blanch certain vegetables and freeze for use during the colder months. If you’re really daring, learn to can like our relatives did. How fantastic to “put up” cans of your favorite fruits and vegetables for the winter. Fourth, get creative. I have so many strawberries in my garden I make jam. I can it and have it for the whole year until the next strawberry season. If you still have extras take them to a food bank. I believe St. Gregory’s Pantry takes produce.
So what to do with all the lovely produce you grow or purchase? Sometimes we can become really inundated with a good crop and if you’re like me you’ll hate to waste any of it. So I’m going to challenge you to not throw any of your hard earned produce in the garbage. Here are some ideas you may want to take advantage of. First, eat lots and lots of fruits and veggies. Our diets should ideally be mostly plant based for good health. Now is the perfect time to ease your way into changing habits and getting more veggies. They taste great so pull out some recipes and get cooking and chopping and eating those veggies! Second, make extra and share with friends and neighbors. We could use more connection
There are so many ways to utilize all the fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables of the season. Take the time to eat them mindfully and offer your gratitude to mother earth for all she has provided. Mindful eating is the way to really enjoy the food we partake of and gratitude for the food allows us to feel really good about what we are eating. Mindful eating feeds the soul and when we feed our souls we have no need to over eat. Feed your bodies with fresh produce and feed your souls by eating that produce mindfully and with gratitude. Until next time, eat healthy, be happy and enjoy the summer!
