PHASE I The Living Pasar Karat

SUMMARY This board tells a story of a man before he came to Pasar Karat and became a full time vendor there. In their home country in Indonesia, the family decided to take out all their savings to invest in a fruit and vegetable stall. The business was good and things when well and it is enough to support the family. However not long after, tsunami came and destroyed everything and there was nothing left. The family needed money and the children were starving, hence he decided that she should go to Malaysia to earn a living.

SUMMARY The second board illustrates the place they stayed and the route they used to go to work at Pasar Karat. Everyday they will pass through DBKL building as if they were being reminded that they were under the surveillance of the authorities as the vendors were not allowed to operate after 10am hence they will usually start selling from 6am

SUMMARY Board 3 shows the emotions of the vendor, he is always streesed and overwhelmed by his financial situation as his family is still waiting and depending on him to send some money back every month.

He has got a bif family to support.

SUMMARY The forth board is indicating the visitor’s side of view and to illustrate the secrecy of Pasar Karat, even though Petaling Street and Pasar Karat is just a street across but most of the local will only go to Petaling Street but not Pasar Karat. Also nowadays, majority of the youngsters do not know about the existance of this place.

SUMMARY The last board for Phase I is to illustrate visitor’s feelings towards Pasar Karat. Adventure at every turn, unexpected highs and lows, as you will not know what would happen next, your goods could be stolen and at the end of the ride, the vendors will sell your goods back to you, and the ticket to this adventurous ride is your own curiosity.

REFLECTION Assignment 1 forces me to develop a deeper appreciation of the story behind the people of Pasar Karat. From their perilous journey across the seas to their continuing perilous livelihood as vendors without permit- a roller coaster of their everyday life.

PHASE II The Wonders

SUMMARY As relating to the rollercoaster board, you will enter a tunnel which will lead you to another world which is how visitors feel abut Pasar Karat. A whole different world. The design of both sides of the tunnel are different to indicate the fun and unexpected journey where one part of the tunnel indicates Petaling Street and another indicates Pasar Karat.

SUMMARY The design of the spiral staircase was inspired by the idea of ‘stairs of Heaven’ where this is a stair to heaven for people who loves adventures and find Pasar Karat awfully fun and interesting.

REFLECTION Whilst Assignment 1 introduces me to 3D thinking Assignment 2 model making puts 3D theory into practical 3D perspective

PHASE III The Cup Noodle Factory

Explaination of Boards For this assignment, I’m doing a cup noodle factory where you could customize your own cup noodle as you wish to.

When you first enter the entrance, you will see 3 self order machiness on your left which allows you to customize your noodles. Your order will be transferred to the first floor and after it is ready, it will be transferred down by the steel transporter and will be hung on the hanging conveyor belt. You could then pick up your noodles at the counter and hae it on the spot as hot water dispensers are provided too at the counter.

If you do not wish to customize your own cup noodle, there is a machine whereyou could insert money and pick whatever noodle available immediately without waiting. The yellow swinging chair was inspired by the design of washer used in my tunnel model in Assignment 2.

With another siiting area, I’ve raised the floor a bit higher and used a different material from the concrete floor to seperate and differentiate the siiting area and other common area.

Since the cencept of the sitting area is an open concept, blimd is provided for customers who need some privacy.

They could pull down the blind anytime upon their wish.

The first floor is a mini arcade where people could play some gaes and win coupons for discount

REFLECTION The idea of a noodle making cottage industry at the Pasar Karat also doubling as a cafe serving economy cup noodles is to reflect the essence of Pasar Karat- selling bargain items with a touch of art and an element of surprise.
