Losing weight is hard when there are more supposed miracle diets out there than calories ingested in an average day. Atkins, Palm Beach, Master Cleanse. Sarasota author Karen Koenig has seen them all, and even tried a few herself. That’s how she knows they don’t work. Koenig was a “world-class binge eater,” she said. She was caught in a toxic cycle of bingeeating and dieting, and it was doing nothing good. Her perspective on eating, and her life, changed when she read “Fat is a Feminist Issue,” by Susie Orbach. She carried it around like an Alcoholics Anonymous booklet, she said. The book taught that it isn’t what you’re eating (or not eating) that’s the most important thing when trying to get healthy.
