Get Involved! There are plenty of events going on to raise funds for St Leonard’s Hospice this summer – from a 10K run to an It’s a Knockout challenge! Here are the highlights...
Summer Fair, 1st July, 1-4pm Come along to the grounds of St Leonard’s Hospice and enjoy a wonderfully British summer fair! There’ll be a barbecue, live music and stalls including homemade cakes and crafts. Get stuck into the fun and games with a golf challenge and the test-your-strength contest, and the younger ones can enjoy the big red party bus while the grown ups have a tipple in the Pimms and beer tent!
Run For All York 10K, 5th August Fancy a challenge? Why not join Team St Leonard’s in the Run For All York 10K? The race starts at the Knavesmire and places are currently available through the Run For All website (www.forallevents.co.uk). Entry for children into the junior or mini run is also free! If you’re not into running, you can still get involved by volunteering to marshal. For further information, call the fundraising department on 777777.
It’s a knockout, 2nd september Sillier, dafter and funnier than ever, the It’s a Knockout challenge at the Knavesmire will see groups of ten battle it out to become this year’s reigning champion. Get your team together! Shop and Help You may well have noticed the eight St Leonard’s Hospice shops in and around York, but have you ever taken a look at their wares? There are plenty of bargains to be had, with new stock arriving ever y day all gene rously donated to help raise funds for the work of the hosp ice. There are lots of special events to get involved with, too, including fashion shows and coffee mor nings, so it’s a great way to meet people if you fancy getting involved. Working in the shops is a rewarding and interestin g volunteering role, too, with the staff forming close bond s with one another and customers. Want to donate, but not sure what you can give? All of the St Leonard’s shops accept used stamps, mobile phones for recycling, foreign coins and broken jewe llery. Got a new sofa, and happy to donate your old one? The Furniture Shop on York Road in Acomb can collect it for you to sell in-store – call 409152. If you’re looking for good qual ity furniture, it’s a great place to start! Best of all, of course, all proceeds go towards helping to fund the vital work that’s done at the hosp ice.
