Cop a load of this! Starting way back in the 1960s, Copmanthorpe Carnival has gone from strength to strength, attracting top acts and thousands of music lovers each year. This year will be no exception and the fun-packed day promises to be a summer sensation on 7th July. The theme this year is the Olympics, with lots of sporting activities, including York City FC Penalty Shootout. A host of local bands will be rocking the main stage at the Copmanthorpe Recreation Centre, including The Likely Lads, Ali & The Beachcombers and The King’s Parade. Along with Fairtrade stalls and a multitude of attractions including a bungee run and birds of prey, this should be a fantastic day out! Visit

Early Birds The fantastic York Early Music Festival will bring a host of awesome acts to venues across the city from 6th-14th July, with performers coming from as far afield as Mexico, Sweden and Israel. Embracing music from the Medieval period through to the Baroque era, the festival gives us a taste of how the music would have been performed at the time. It’s one of the country’s biggest Early Music events and will be filled with vibrant, exciting performances, and one of the highlights we’re looking forward to the most is I Fagiolini at the Minster on 12th July from 8pm. The audience members are allowed to roam around the building as the players perform – but no poking, please. For further information, call 658338 or visit
