The ever-popular Galtres Festival returns this August, with tickets now on sale – and a discount if you quote Locallink767 when you book! We’re getting far too excited about this fab festival, frankly, so we decided to catch up with musician Holly Taymar, who will play at Galtres, in a bid to calm down.* What sort of music do you play? I’m a twenty-something from York with a penchant for writing and singing melodic acoustic tunes with this lovely voice and an acoustic guitar. There's also Chris Bilton in accompaniment, adding some more acoustic and electric guitar. We'd like to say we were the Beyonce and Jay-Z of York, but in reality we're much less cool and a lot more British. What do you think of Galtres Festival? It's an excellent music and beer festival set in a beautiful hilltop location just outside of York Crayke, to be exact. It's grown significantly since I first started performing there in 2006 to become a really prestigious festival for both local and national artists and bands to perform at. There's an excellent variety of things to see and do – live entertainment, interactive things to do for younger people, great food and a mind-boggling array of beers and ciders.

Are you looking forward to it? I always look forward to Galtres Festival – particularly as we're doing more gigs further afield nowadays, it's lovely to come back and see our friends over the whole weekend. The audience is always top-notch. There's a real community feel about it, it's not in any way corporate. It's sort of like 'York Goes Camping' it really retains the friendliness of the city, but in a field.

So, if you weren't a musician, what would you be? Sitting at home, trying to figure out how to be a musician. Or a quilt-maker. *It didn’t work. See Holly at the Galtres Festival, Crayke, 24th-26th August. Find out more at
