A Vehicle to Advance Our Freedom Principles Dear Friends, This is my last annual report letter to you as Young America’s Foundation’s president because next year Governor Scott Walker will have this honor of reporting to you.

Traditionally, my focus in the annual report has been on the progress we are making to reach greater numbers of students. In recent years, that has been a most encouraging report as our campus events, conferences, and social media activities have grown exponentially.

However, this year I want to specifically thank you, our financial supporters.

Our team has the great pleasure of working with extraordinary individuals.

You, our financial supporters, are successful, or you would not be in position to help our students.

Although it is a religious college—as were the graduate and law schools I attended—I seldom, if ever, hear of any campus activities or programs promoting traditional marriage and the nuclear family.

Nor does my alma mater promote students’ right-tolife activities.

Indeed, my college’s leadership seems obsessed with promoting past and present Central American Marxists instead of sharing the stories of true Freedom Fighters or the brave refugees who have escaped Communist Cuba and Socialist Venezuela.

All of this reminds me of the importance of the work we all do for freedom at Young America’s Foundation.

You are principled, or you would not seek out and find Young America’s Foundation.

It is painful that my alma mater does not share my conservative principles. Sadly, my school is not unique in its promotion of the leftist worldview. This is the norm in academia today—not the exception.

And you are generous, or you would not be among the recipients of this annual report.

Your alma mater is likely doing little to advance your ideas and values among the next generation.

Finally, you care about the future of our country and its younger generations.

And that makes your support of Young America’s Foundation even more impactful.

To work day-in-and-day out with successful, principled, and generous supporters is a very special experience. You have made every day I have been at Young America’s Foundation an opportunity to get to know and work with great Americans.

This annual report illustrates that we have a vehicle to unapologetically advance our freedom principles.

Thank you for being who you are and helping our students and our great nation.

Many of our supporters are also generous to the schools they once attended. I would like to give generously to my alma mater, too. However, the values my college highlights and invests in are very far from my own values and beliefs.

As you review the following pages, I hope you take pride in the success you have helped us achieve last year and throughout Young America’s Foundation’s 50-year history.

Our Mission Young America’s Foundation is the principal outreach organization of the Conservative Movement, committed to ensuring that increasing numbers of young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.

Indeed, our programs made a lasting—often lifechanging—impact on the young people who filled the sold-out seats at our high school and college conferences, gained inspiration from leading conservatives through our unmatched campus lecture program, and walked in Ronald Reagan’s footsteps at his beloved Rancho del Cielo.

1) YAF boldly defended free speech and student rights—building on our 2018 victory over the University of California, Berkeley. In 2019, YAF won another key First Amendment lawsuit against the University of Florida (UF), with the University agreeing to a settlement, that awarded the UF Young Americans for Freedom chapter $66,000 in damages. The school also agreed to

change its unconstitutional policies, which discriminated against conservative students by denying them equal access to university resources.

Vice President Mike Pence applauded YAF for successfully fighting for free speech, telling our students, “The work you’ve done has truly been inspiring,” and adding, “When it comes to freedom of speech, the Trump administration and YAF are standing shoulder-to-shoulder, and we always will.”

2) More young people watched our student programs online than in all previous years combined, bringing conservative ideas to the widest audiences in our history. YAF’s videos amassed more than 327 million views on

YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms.

Further, YAF’s Facebook and Twitter accounts pulled in more than 757 million impressions.

In addition, YAF’s Virtual Pass—our interactive and engaging virtual classroom— reached a record 1.3 million views. Virtual Pass eliminates barriers to involvement, giving all students the ability to take part in YAF’s programs from afar.

3) Once again, YAF exclusively sponsored Ben Shapiro—the most requested and sought-after speaker in the Conservative Movement today— on campuses nationwide. The Daily Wire editor-in-chief, wildly popular podcast host, and #1 bestselling author has spoken at more than 57 campuses for Young America’s Foundation, routinely drawing hundreds of thousands— often millions—of viewers to his live-streamed lectures. In 2019, students lined up for blocks to attend Shapiro’s sold-out lectures—part of YAF’s Fred Allen Lecture Series—at the University of Michigan, Grand Canyon University, The George Washington University, Boston University, Stanford University, University of Alabama, and Baylor University.

4) In addition to Ben Shapiro, YAF’s campus lecture program featured the nation’s leading conservative speakers, including Michael Knowles, Dinesh D’Souza, Elisha Krauss, Rachel Campos-Duffy, and dozens more.

In 2019, YAF brought our unsurpassed campus lecture program to more than 125 schools from coast to coast. The impact of these programs was far-reaching—inspiring audiences beyond the campuses—with YAF’s lectures surpassing 327 million online views.

Additionally, YAF’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Free Enterprise ensured the leading free market experts and advocates, including Dr. Arthur Laffer, Andy Puzder, and Steve Moore, among others, shared the virtues and importance of free enterprise with today’s young people—tomorrow’s future business leaders and entrepreneurs.

5) In July, Young America’s Foundation announced that—after more than four decades of leadership—President Ron Robinson would retire in early 2021, and YAF’s Board of Directors had elected Wisconsin’s 45th governor, Scott Walker, as his successor.

Following the Governor’s nationally-televised announcement on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, National Review reflected,

Great organizations with strong leaders often struggle with the problem of succession. So, the news that Scott Walker will become the next president of Young America’s Foundation is welcome… it means a key institution of the conservative movement will remain in good hands for years to come.

6) Increasing numbers of high school students visited Ronald Reagan’s Western White House through YAF’s one-of-a-kind High School Conferences at the Reagan Ranch. YAF hosted five high school programs in 2019, including three in Santa Barbara, increasing the capacity and length of the programs to meet growing demand from students eager to begin their journey in the Conservative Movement.

The June High School Conference at the Reagan Ranch, alone, attracted more than 800 participants from 209 schools—as well as 300,000 YAF Virtual Pass viewers—who

enjoyed four days of learning, fellowship with like-minded peers, and an unforgettable visit to Rancho del Cielo. As one student wrote, “After coming to Santa Barbara, I have a newfound pride for America and individual freedom. I know this conference has changed my life, and I will go home to spread conservative values… at my school!”

7) Young America’s Foundation’s William & Berniece Grewcock Capitol Hill Townhouse celebrated its first full year in operation, ensuring the Foundation has an active presence in the heart of our nation’s capital. Throughout the year, the townhouse served as a bustling venue for YAF’s Capitol Hill activities, attracting students and Capitol Hill interns as well as Foundation alumni, supporters, and friends. Special receptions and dinners featured key conservative leaders, including Speaker Newt Gingrich, Attorney General Edwin Meese, Congressman Sean Duffy, Rachel Campos-Duffy, Congressman Alex Mooney,

Chief of Staff to the Vice President Marc Short welcomes Young America’s Foundation supporters and friends to the White House for a special briefing. Short, a Foundation alumnus, has served on the Foundation’s team in several capacities, including as our first director of the Reagan Ranch in the late 1990s.

In addition, over the course of five days, YAF’s 41st annual National Conservative Student Conference featured 27 of these leading speakers, reaching more than 1,300 students in Washington, D.C, and an additional 97 million households live on C-SPAN.

9) Young Americans for Freedom chapter growth influenced more young people at more schools nationwide. Young America’s Foundation takes great care to ensure that our Young Americans for Freedom chapters and leaders are actively engaged and thoroughly trained and have the necessary resources to educate and inspire their peers with our shared cause. Our chapters represent fully-functioning and dynamic clubs on campuses, rather than ones that may exist merely on paper. The more than 528 YAF chapters across the country ensure that conservative ideas have a place in our high schools and on our college campuses.

10) The National Journalism Center (NJC) graduated 43 bright, young journalists, with the students completing NJC’s 12-week sessions held in the spring and summer. Combined, these young people published more than 1,400

pieces, with many articles and stories making national headlines, including intern Yuichiro Kakutani’s groundbreaking investigative piece for the Washington Free Beacon. Kakutani reported on uncovered documents which showed the Clinton White House and key allies spread a multi-year misinformation campaign that utilized thousands of activists to “covertly mold public opinion using talk radio.” The comprehensive reporting also landed Kakutani on

several radio programs to discuss his findings.

11) Young America’s Foundation continues to steward its resources and expand its programming thanks to our wide base of supporters. The Foundation works with more than 600,000 patriotic Americans whose intentions to educate youth are being carried out in their stead by a well-managed, efficient, and proven institution.

Financial Report In 2019, Young America’s Foundation experienced our 19th consecutive year of growth, with net assets totaling more than $76 million. Revenue in 2019 exceeded $32.25 million, bringing the total support and revenue raised over the past decade to more than $240 million.

Our endowment has grown to a robust $23.73 million and has provided in excess of $8.4 million in cumulative payouts to fund programs and Rancho del Cielo preservation.
