Dr. Dean S. Barnard, Jr. (Providence, RI) passed away on June 28, 2017. The former Professor of English retired in 1986 after years of dedication to York College. He served as President of Academic Senate in 1974 and delivered the commencement address in 1986. He encouraged the integration of computers in the classroom and searched for innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Frank Mussano, former Dean of Administrative Services at York College, said, "I was always struck by his bigger-than-life effervescent personality." Deeply revered by students and teachers, Mussano said that Barnard "was a warm, genuine, down-to-earth scholar who will be missed." He is survived by his daughter Anni Barnard. Dr. Dean S. Eiteman (Athens, GA), April 21, 2017. He attended the University of Michigan (B.B.A. 1957, M.B.A. 1958) and Michigan State University (Ph.D. 1967) and was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant. He began his long academic career on the faculty at York Junior College from 1961-1963, then went on to work at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, for 19 years and Indiana University of Pennsylvania for 11 years (1988-1999). Dean is survived by his wife, Elfriede, his brother, two children and two grandchildren. Robert W. Erdos (York, PA), March 25, 2017. He lived in York his entire life, attended the University of Pennsylvania and Yale Law School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. After the military, he joined his father at Danskin, Inc., where he served as Plant Manager and retired as Senior Vice President in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Erda, three children, and five grandchildren. Harlowe D. "Cork" Hardinge (Mercer Island, WA), August 23, 2017. He served in the Air Force from 1954-1956. He was president of his own business, the Hardinge Company, and had a second career in education. He was preceded in death by Sue, his wife of 45 years. He is survived by his twin daughters, a son, and four grandchildren. Mary M. (Moul) Knoke (York, PA), May 2, 2017. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Knoke and worked for Dental Supply until her retirement in 1976. She is survived by her brother, five of her eight children, 21 grandchildren, 43 greatgrandchildren, 36 great-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-great-grandchildren. Richard L. Reinhardt (Hilton Head, SC), April 28, 2017. He owned several businesses and served for 18 years on the National Federation of Independent Business Board of Directors. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Faye, their three children and four grandchildren. Ruth E. Winter (York, PA), July 20, 2017. She served as the School Secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Headmaster at York Country Day School for 43 years, retiring in 2001. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and other family members.

William Goodling '47 (Seven Valleys, PA) passed away on September 17, 2017. After serving as an educator for 24 years, Goodling was elected as York County's Congressional representative in 1974. He held this position for 26 years and served as Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee. He also served on the Foreign Relations Committee and Small Business Committees. He helped develop the Even Start Program, which provided literacy training for parents. After retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives in 2001, he enjoyed breeding thoroughbred horses and singing in the Loganville Emmanuel United Methodist Church choir. He founded and chaired the Goodling Workforce Skills Center. He also established the Goodling Teacher Scholarship Fund, and founded the Goodling Family Literacy Research Institute at Penn State University. Stanley Brown '53 (Loganville, PA) passed away on August 12, 2017. As the owner of Brown's Orchards & Farm Market, Brown was a well-known and beloved figure in York County. His parents purchased the orchard in 1948, which marked the beginning of his love for agriculture and community. In the 1980s, he and his wife, Nona, opened a market on the orchards in order to house their growing fruit basket business. He was also heavily involved in the York County community. He served at the Loganville Volunteer Fire Company for 20 years and was a member of various community groups including the York County Agriculture Business Council and the Pennsylvania State Horticultural Association. Donald S. Beaner '69 (West Chester, PA), March 17, 2017. He retired as the Chief Financial Officer for American Belt Company of Bensalem, PA, after 18 years. He was a member of Great Valley Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marta, their daughter and son, and four grandchildren. Dennis S. Cipko '88 (New Freedom, PA), April 16, 2017. He worked as an accountant for H&R Block, the IRS and the PA Department of Revenue, as well as a Sales Engineer for Western Electric (later Lucent Technologies). He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also proudly served in the Maryland National Guard. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia, two children, and two grandchildren. Kimberly F. Miller Curran '86 (Media, PA), September 1, 2016. She worked as a registered nurse and a school nurse. She is survived by her husband, parents, brother, and other family members. G. Bradford Ennis '06 (Havertown, PA), September 25, 2016. He worked at PJM Interconnection in Audubon, PA. He is survived by his wife, Brooke, two daughters, and his parents. Robert J. Freed '69 (Georgetown, DE), April 29, 2017. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He also attended Penn State University. He is survived by his wife, Judith, their son, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews. L. Adele King '82 (Mountville, PA), August 13, 2017. She was the manager in the Clinical Coding Department at Lancaster General Hospital for almost 30 years and a longtime member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran

Church. She is survived by her husband, mother, two sons, and a brother. Dr. Stanley R. Joseph '50 (Annapolis, MD), July 21, 2017. He was a graduate of York Junior College (associate's degree), Gettysburg College (bachelor's degree), Penn State University (master’s degree), and University of Maryland (Ph.D.). He served in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s and married his wife, Louise, in 1956. He worked for the State of Maryland for 55 years. He is survived by a son and two daughters, a sister, and two grandchildren. Richard D. "Dick" Kohler '48 (York, PA), June 13, 2016. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and then earned an associate's degree from York Junior College before attending the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He and his wife, Betty, owned and operated Kohler Pharmacy in Dallastown from 1952 to 1991. Edwin R. Koskela '62 (Clarksville, TN), February 25, 2017. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended York Junior College. He retired from General Electric as a Plant Manager after 44 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Mildred, and their three daughters. Arthur G. Schafer II '78 (Mount Wolf, PA), August 28, 2016. He is survived by two sons, two grandchildren, and other family members. F. Schultz '76 (Red Lion, PA), April 12, 2017. He previously worked at Dyn Corp in York, Leggett & Platt in Red Lion, and Red Lion Area High School. He was a member of Winterstown United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debra, a son, two brothers, and two nephews. Mary E. (Buckingham) Shoemaker '32 (York, PA), December 30, 2016. She attended the York Collegiate Institute and was the wife of the late William H. Shoemaker, Sr. Charles F. Smith '54 (York, PA), June 29, 2017. He attended York Junior College and Millersville State Teacher's College, and later earned a master's degree from Temple University. He worked for 30 years as an English and history teacher for York City School District. He is survived by his fiancé, his twin daughters, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. LaRue Stelene ′52 (Winter Park, FL), February 13, 2017. He attended York Junior College and worked for 39 years as an Engineer for Martin Marietta. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, four children, and 11 grandchildren. Harold W. Stump '51 (York, PA), March 25, 2017. He was a teacher for the York City School District for 37 years. He attended York Junior College and Millersville University, as well as serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he participated in the invasion of Normandy. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Roxanne, a daughter, and two grandchildren. Galen W. Waltemyer '77 (York, PA), May 17, 2016. He worked as an accountant and played the trumpet. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Deborah, their daughter, his sister, and a grandson, as well as many nieces and nephews. Gregory L. Wert '68 (York, PA), April 25, 2017. He attended York Junior College and Elizabethtown College. He retired from York International/Johnson Controls as a Design Draftsman after 30 years of employment. Anne "Annie" R. Ritsch '21 (Elizabethtown, PA), September 30, 2017. She attended York Technical Institute and York College. She served as a Deacon and Youth Director at Donegal Presbyterian Church and was a strong advocate for the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, Dog Park Mount Joy, and Adoptions From The Heart.
