Greetings from the YMCA of Greater Williamson County! 2017 was another busy year at the YMCA. The wonderful photos in this 2017 YMCA annual report reminds us that 2017 was also a year of “Special Events.” The YMCA of Greater Williamson County has a rich heritage of putting the “special“ in its “events.” Our goal is to bring people together, celebrate the good things the YMCA is doing, and recognize the generosity of those that support the good we do. In 2017, the YMCA of Greater Williamson County touched over 1 Million individuals. In Williamson County, YMCA activities and programs are woven into the daily lives of both young and old. Our YMCA facilities have become a place where our members, young and old alike, find comfort and choose to frequent. That’s why ensuring our YMCA is “special” is so important. Members, guests, and donors deserve a caring, compassionate experience which the team at our YMCA is committed to provide. At the YMCA of Greater Williamson County, we believe in the value of social responsibility. We are serious about lifting up our neighbors and this shows up in so many ways. For over 175 years, YMCA programs have developed youth and promoted healthy living. The YMCA’s goal is to serve all regardless of their ability to pay. This goal opens the door for everyone to participate and grow socially, physically, mentally and spiritually. Our YMCA realizes that despite our commitment to inclusion, many families never experience the YMCA. Unfortunately, there are many reasons why this happens. Possibly the most alarming reason is the enormous burden that some families carry as they strive to meet day to day necessities, i.e. food, health, and shelter. For these families, a YMCA membership or a YMCA program is a luxury that is not pursued due to those “life things” that so many of us take for granted. The YMCA of Greater Williamson County’s leadership realizes our traditional financial aid process may not work for those families who need help the most. Due to this, at our YMCA we bring YMCA activities to those that may not ever enroll in a program or walk into one of our facilities. Community “Special Events” like the Nyle Maxwell Christmas Dreams & Snowy Things ( see page 27 ) which are free to the community, makes the YMCA possible and available to everybody, which is how it should be. We hope you will enjoy this annual report and agree with us that our YMCA puts the “special” in everyone’s lives. Thank you for all that you do to make our mission a success!

TOGETHER MAKING A DIFFERENCE

H

URRICANE HARVEY WAS THE WORST FLOODING DISASTER IN U.S. HISTORY. One month after Hurricane Harvey’s devastating landfall, volunteers from the YMCA of Greater Williamson County went to D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA at Cypress Creek to help with the cleanup. While there, they delivered supplies and donations that were donated by the Greater Williamson County members and staff. They also brought much needed equipment that was used to clean a youth sports complex. The complex had been covered in debris from the floodwaters and was not suitable for young children to play on. The volunteers worked tirelessly to clean the complex and helped to enable the youth complex to be program ready.

TEAM OF YOUNG LEADERS AT THE YMCA OF GREATER WILLIAMSON COUNTY were tasked .with creating a fundraising event as part of their

Y 101 leadership class. They put their minds together and partnered with local philanthropist Nyle Maxwell and the Round Rock Express. The team sold raffle tickets that allowed 3-6 year olds a chance to race during the pre-game show at Dell Diamond. Eight raffle ticket winners raced during the pre-game show. They got to bring their family to the game, sit in Nyle Maxwell’s Suite and enjoyed food during the game. The winners of the race walked away with a power wheels as their prize.
