Wyatt Mould

Wyatt Mould studied to become a journeyman lineman at Northwest Lineman College (NLC) in Meridian, Idaho. Founded in 1993, NLC is a private vocational school that prepares students for careers in the power delivery field. After graduating, he entered the IBEW Mountain States Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training (MSLCAT) Program, which provides a blend of classroom education and on-the-job training. Through this program, he gained real-world experience in live-line work, troubleshooting, and high-voltage maintenance while strengthening his understanding of safety practices and electrical theory. He worked for three years on power lines across Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Texas, traveling wherever his crew was needed to restore service or extend the grid. His fieldwork exposed him to different terrains and weather conditions, helping him build adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving skills essential to the trade. At NLC, he completed an intensive 15-week pre-apprentice program that combined technical study and practical training. He learned about power delivery systems, electrical circuits, and line construction while practicing essential hands-on tasks like pole climbing, conductor handling, splicing, and proper equipment use. Safety was a primary focus, and he trained in fall protection, lock-out/tag-out procedures, high-voltage precautions, and personal protective equipment. As a lineman, he built, repaired, and maintained power transmission and distribution systems, including poles, transformers, and underground cables. His duties included stringing conductors, inspecting lines, testing equipment, and repairing damage caused by storms or other hazards. These experiences developed his precision, technical judgment, and ability to work safely under demanding conditions. He has been an excavator with Borden Excavating in St. Calimesa, California, for over three years. His work involves installing water mains and servicing customer meter boxes.
