From the Metropolitan Opera The Metropolitan Opera is delving into its vast archives to bring us presentations from the past. The month begins with War and Peace, Sergei Prokofiev’s four-hour distillation of Tolstoy’s novel, marking the 2002 Met debut of soprano Anna Netrebko. The Met’s tribute to the Beethoven anniversary will be the 2017 staging of the composer’s only opera, Fidelio, starring Canadian soprano Adrienne Pieczonka. Then enjoy a December favorite: an English-language version of Hansel and Gretel from 2018. Finally, join us for another Met holiday tradition: an abridged English-language version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute from 2010 featuring Russell Thomas as Tamino and Susanna Phillips as Pamina.
