Fog, blizzards, gusts of wind – poor weather can often make the operation of rescue helicopters a highly risky business, and sometimes even impossible. A new helmetmounted display, developed by researchers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), may in the future be able to help pilots detect hazards at an early stage, even when their visibility is severely impaired. The information required to do this is created in an on-board computer and imported into digital eye glasses. A new study has shown that this augmented reality improves the performance of pilots.

The Alpine foothills are a projection, Viertler is not a pilot, but a TUM engineer and he is not really operating an actual helicopter, rather a flight simulator. Coptersafety – an independent helicopter flight training service provider announced at the end of June, the order of five new Full Flight Simulators (FFS) and the construction of a new Flight Training Centre to a host variety of Full Flight Simulators. The centre will be located in the vicinity of Helsinki Airport, Finland next to the existing Coptersafety facility.

His experience across helicopter types includes Robinson R22/R44, Bell JetRanger, LongRanger and 407, Airbus H120, Gazelle and AS355, and the Leonardo AW109.

On June 27, Bristow’s Board of Directors determined that it was in the best interests of the Company and its shareholders to increase the size of the Board from twelve to thirteen directors and has appointed Mr. A. William Higgins to fill the vacant Board position, effective from that date. HeliGroup appoints Business Development Director

Hoff's plans for the new operation extend from training using a Guimbal Cabri G2 to a wide range of charter work, including interlining opportunities for corporate jets operated by Gama Aviation. This new dimension to the Gama Aviation portfolio will ensure that their customers can be flown direct to a central London heliport. The range of helicopters offered is expected to include both the Robinson R44 and Bell JetRanger in the near future, and other types in the medium term. Further services including helipad planning, advising customers on purchase and operating costs.

HeliGroup has announced that Ed Sale, formally Sales Manager for Airbus Helicopters UK, has joined HeliGroup as Business Development Director.
