“You know that feeling you get when you find a pen that becomes magic when it hits the paper? You pick it up and write and the color and fluidity of the ink somehow makes your messy handwriting look like you’re a calligrapher as opposed to illegible mess?! I love it when that happens.
And sometimes, the best pen is the one you least expect to fit your hand or run smoothly across the page. I had a friend that sent a simple but outrageous pen in the shape of a hotdog. And of course I loved it because of its whimsy and delighted in the plastic hotdog form. But you know what I loved even more? I loved that the ink that came out of that pen flowed perfectly in an unusual but pretty inky purple line. That’s when I knew I wanted to make drawings of pens that are joyous in sight but also delightful in use.
This collection of fabric is a love letter to those perfect writing utensils and to the people whom we adore so much that we take time to hand write a note using all of our pens. From Mr.Pen to the six-color old faithful writer we all had to have in jr. high to the fancy fountain pen that makes a mess each time I try to refill it, each writing vessel has a style and personality of its own. Here we honor the doodles and scribbles made on scrap papers while waiting on hold to the simple note we take time to write to our besties, Pen Pals is a celebration of the everyday.” - Heather
