Intoxicated person rescued from White Bear Lake WHITE BEAR LAKE – An intoxicated male was rescued from White Bear Lake about 10:30 p.m. June 5. The male was heard screaming by a passerby, who reported it to the White Bear Lake Police Department. “[They] reported they could hear near the Manitou Island bridge a male screaming for help,” said Captain Dale Hager. The man was rescued by officers from a marshy part of the lake. He was intoxicated and uncooperative with officers, said Randy Gustafson, with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office. It was not clear how he had fallen out of a boat, and said he had been riding with two other people. Officers didn't know whether or not the other boaters may be in trouble as well, said Gustafson. The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and the White Bear Lake Fire Department deployed boats to search for the two other people. A state helicopter was deployed as well. Public safety officials later learned the two additional boaters had already docked the boat and left the area. “Fortunately there weren't any drownings and there weren't any injuries,” said Gustafson. As boating season kicks into full gear, Gustafson asks boaters to be safe. “Don't drink and boat,” he said. “Wear those personal flotation devices. That is the law. You need to either be wearing them or have them handy in case you fall out of the boat. Follow boating safety and have a good time.”

PUBLIC SAFETY BRIEFS Burglar placed on 20 years of probation Andrew Hyde of White Bear Lake was given 20 years of probation for first-degree burglary of a residence on Woodland Drive in Mahtomedi May 6, 2015. Hyde entered the residence through a kitchen window that was open about 2 inches, the complaint read. The homeowner had fallen asleep on the couch and awoke to a noise in the kitchen. He confronted Hyde with a handgun, to which Hyde said “I'm sorry man, I will leave and never come back. You don't know what it is like to be poor.” The suspect fled when the homeowner's wife went to call 911. Hyde had moved two glass cups in the kitchen to enter the house through the window. Fingerprints analyzed by the BCA (Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) identified Hyde as the suspect of the burglary. Hyde was given a stay of execution for 21 months. If he keeps the conditions of his probation, he will have no additional time to serve in jail. His jail time is 180 days with 153 days credit. Conditions include: no use of alcohol, no use of drugs, random testing, chemical dependency evaluation, no contact order with victims, psychological exam, follow all recommendations as tailored and directed by probation officer, submit DNA and remain law abiding.

The White Bear Lake Police Department is still investigating whether the cause of the fire could be criminal or not. “We believe the car was owned by a visitor to one of the residences in the area, not by a resident,” said Captain Dale Hager. “It is still under investigation.”
