Charlotte Selected for Live Saxophone Final Congratulations to Upper Sixth musician Charlotte Arthur, who was one of only six saxophonists nationally to be chosen for the live final of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain Young Saxophone Soloist Competition. Charlotte was selected by an expert panel following submission of her recording of Jolivet's Fantaisie Impromptu and a new piece by Charlotte Harding specially commissioned for this national competition.

Oboe Masterclass Wells oboists enjoyed an inspiring Masterclass with contemporary music specialist, oboist and composer Melinda Maxwell in November. Melinda was able to offer excellent advice on improvisation and on the practicalities of working with artists in other disciplines. The accompanying image shows Melinda rehearsing the Royal Fireworks Music by Fasch, which was performed in the School’s Woodwind Promenade Concert in Wells Cathedral in late January.

Recorder Masterclasses Specialist recorder players have recently been treated to a day of Masterclasses and consultation lessons given by recorder master Anna Stegmann. Anna lives in Amsterdam but regularly visits the UK to teach at the Royal Academy of Music in London and to give classes

nationally. Pupils presented a variety of contemporary repertoire and Anna's advice on performance was particularly well received. This was closely followed by RecorderWorks, a recital given in Wells Cathedral as part of the new music wells Festival.
