Physics is the study of the Universe and how everything in it behaves. It includes study of everything from the tiniest particles that make up everything, to the largest Galaxies. It helps us to understand the world around us and satisfy our curiosity. If you like to ask “Why?” then Physics is for you. Studying physics develops your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In Physics, we apply Mathematics to the real world. Studying Physics can help us to better understand and apply Mathematics. Choosing Physics at GCSE will also keep lots of options open for further study. We study the following topics, building on the work in Year 9: • Forces and Motion • Electricity • Waves • Energy resources and energy transfers • Solids, liquids and gases • Magnetism and Electromagnetism • Radioactivity and particles • Astrophysics Some of this content is covered in Year 9, and each topic will be re-visited in Years 10 and 11 and covered in more depth.
