For some people, growing up on a farm and being interested in animal births on the place might lead to a career as a veterinarian. For Sarah Spencer, D.O., it led instead to helping bring human babies into the world as well as providing women with care for all aspects of their gynecological and obstetric health. Raised in Jonesville, Dr. Spencer participated in the Jonesville High School band and showed horses through 4-H. Following graduation, she received her bachelor’s degree from Albion College and continued her education at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. From the outset, she knew that she wanted to pursue a specialty in obstetrics and gynecology—a goal that did not change during her medical education. 10
Dr. Spencer completed her residency in OB/GYN at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in 2019. For three years, she practiced at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dr. Danyelle O’Dell, another Jonesville native and former schoolmate who has been with Hillsdale Obstetrics & Gynecology since the fall of 2021, knew Dr. Spencer in high school and contacted her about the possibility of joining the Hillsdale practice.
