Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse. It’s hard to believe we are already at the half way point of our season but we still have plenty to look forward to, starting with Ladies’ Day tomorrow. We have great prizes on offer from Grantley Hall for the Best Dressed Lady and from Jenny Roberts Millinery for the Best Hat competition and we have music on the bandstand from a great Ed Sheeran tribute. We have a good card with seven races this evening and our feature race is the Wells Memorial Challenge Trophy at 7.40, run in memory of all members of the Wells family who have contributed greatly to the racecourse since its inauguration. Their support is greatly appreciated. Our last meeting on 1st June last saw Team Tim Easterby extend their lead in the Goodbye Flys Stable Staff competition. Team Easterby are certainly in a commanding position and will surely prove tough to reel in but there’s another 102 points to play for this evening so every race counts with the £5000 ﬁrst prize up for grabs, as well as £2000 to the second placed team and £1000 to the third. A chance is taken on CITY ESCAPE. Mark Loughnane’s charge wasn’t disgraced at Nottingham earlier this month, though a slow start did little to aid her chances. However, she had been in consistent form on the all-weather prior to that effort and a return to the winner’s enclosure may be imminent. The unexposed Swinton could find improvement on this switch to turf, while Power To Love can make her presence felt.

The daughter of Havana Grey can take a step forward and for her in-form yard, she can strike. WHERE’S JEFF was unlucky when being repeatedly denied a clear run in the closing stages at this course last month. He kept on well given the circumstances and could improve further stepping up in trip. Croeso Cymraeg is feared on his return to drier conditions, given he ran well for second on good to firm at Windsor on his penultimate outing. Carrigillihy is another to look out for off a 3lb higher mark from his last win.

It would be no surprise if the returning Ascot winner Khanjar were to make a mockery of his opening handicap mark, but AZURE BLUE’s authoritative success at Hamilton last week earns her the vote. Michael Dods’ filly appears to be on a firm upward curve and she looks the type that could progress further still. Experienced in this sort of company, Gnat Alley is preferred of the Tim Easterby-trained pair, while Bond Power could also get involved.

REEL ROSIE left quite the impression when bolting up at Newmarket last month and a 9lb rise for that success could well underestimate the daughter of Highland Reel as she takes a slight rise in class. Narrowly denied at Windsor, Sweet Fantasy can give her the most to think about, along with C&D winner Myristica, who should appreciate a return to this track. Miss Harmony remains open to improvement and she cannot be dismissed either.

In a wide-open contest marginal preference is for MOKAMAN, who is back down to his last winning mark and sports first-time blinkers, so could gain a fourth career success. Blackcurrent merits consideration following success at Beverley last month, though stall four may be less than ideal. Contrastingly, Elzaal is berthed nicely and he can mount another bold bid, while Jungle Bee has slipped to a tempting mark and shouldn’t be discounted.
