A Note to the Reader
This Comprehension-based™ reader is based on 142 unique words in Spanish. It contains a manageable amount of vocabulary and numerous cognates (words that are similar in two languages), making it an ideal read for beginning language students.
All vocabulary is listed in the glossary at the back of the book. Vocabulary that would be considered beyond a novice level is footnoted within the text. Special terms related to bullfighting have also been footnoted.
Bullfighting, or the corrida de toros, has been a part of Spanish culture for centuries. The tradition is very much alive today, and professional bullfighters, or toreros, often become celebrities. This book is a work of fiction. All characters and events are invented by the author. The book does not attempt to make a statement about bullfighting, but to educate and entertain, allowing students to form their own opinions while increasing their proficiency in Spanish. We hope you enjoy reading your way to fluency!

¡Me imita!
—¡Perfecto! —le respondió Marcos—. ¡Es un nombre excelente!
Bianca miró a Marcos contenta.
1 había sido - it had been
2 toro domesticado - a tame pet bull (as opposed to a toro bravo, a wild and untamed bull)

el torito se sentó. Ferdinando imitaba a Bianca y a Marcos.
Yo quiero domesticar a Ferdinando.
6

—No hay problema, papá —le respondió Bianca—. Voy a cuidarlo bien.

No vieron a Bianca.
