Lawrence Loh Guest Conductor

Described as bringing an “artisan storyteller’s sensitivity… shaping passages with clarity and power via beautifully sculpted dynamics… revealing orchestral character not seen or heard before” (Arts Knoxville), Lawrence Loh enjoys a dynamic career as a conductor of orchestras all over the world.

As Music Director of Symphoria, the successor to the Syracuse Symphony, Lawrence Loh has helped to build a 21st century model of a modern symphony orchestra. “The connection between the organization and its audience is one of the qualities that’s come to define Syracuse’s symphony” (Syracuse.com).

Mr. Loh has assisted John Williams on multiple occasions and has worked with a wide range of pops artists, from Chris Botti and Ann Hampton Callaway to Jason Alexander and Idina Menzel. As one of the most requested conductors for conducting Films in Concert, Loh has led Black Panther, Star Wars (Episodes 4-6), Jaws, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jurassic Park, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz and Singin’ in the Rain, among other film productions.

Lawrence Loh received his Artist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from Yale, his Masters in Choral Conducting from Indiana University, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. Loh was born in southern California of Korean parentage and raised in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Jennifer have a son, Charlie, and a daughter, Hilary. SoNA Mentors

What is SoNA Mentors?

At no cost to schools or families, we send our musicians into area schools to enrich our communities’ students with:

Performances Sectionals

Masterclasses Private Lessons

Pre-College Career Guidance and more!

Rather than approaching schools with a pre-existing curriculum, SoNA Mentors collaborate with local music teachers and directors to support educators in whatever capacity is needed to help music students achieve their fullest potential.

Going beyond the Mainstage!

This year, SoNA Mentors worked with students across Northwest Arkansas in 11 area schools – with an estimated 2,000 students impacted by our mission, culminating in two Symphonic Outreach Concerts at the end of the spring semester led by our Assistant Conductor, Sarah Pearson.

“Whether a young musician goes on to get a music scholarship, becomes a professional musician, or even just a lifelong music lover – our efforts in music education will no doubt be felt in countless ways for decades to come. I’m deeply honored to play a role in this, and am grateful for the generous souls who make this work possible.”

SoNA Beyond presents a variety of concerts, programs, and other creative arts experiences that go beyond the symphony’s annual mainstage season of concerts. The series features symphony musicians in creative ways, including chamber music performances, outdoor educational concerts, community partnerships, groundbreaking contemporary experiences, and more.

Join our mailing list and check our website to stay up to date on future SoNA Beyond performances.

Support SoNA

Overture Society

A gift to the Overture Society (our annual fund) provides general operating support for concerts, education programs, outreach, collaborations and administrative expenses.

Chair Sponsorships

Chair Sponsorships — whether individual, group or corporate — provide much needed support and can create a personal relationship with a SoNA musician. Your gift will help attract and retain the best musicians, ensuring our continued artistic growth and regional stature. A gift of $2,500 will sponsor a SoNA principal musician chair, or a gift of $1,000 will sponsor an orchestra section chair.

Leave a Legacy

Your planned charitable bequest to SoNA can make a significant impact by helping to ensure that our mission will thrive far into the future. Gifts of all sizes make it possible for us to build financial strength and maintain our tradition of excellence and community outreach for generations to come. For assistance with bequests, including gifts of stock, please contact Jett Moore with Greenwood Gearhart, Inc. at jtmoore@greenwoodgearhart.com or 479.521.5353.

The Maestro’s Circle

SoNA wishes to thank the donors who have contributed to our Endowment Fund through the Maestro’s Circle. If you would like to learn more about multi-year gifts that help ensure SoNA’s future, please contact Devanee Williams, Development Manager at devanee@sonamusic.org or 479.521.4166.
