The Jimmy Stewart Museum in his hometown of Indiana is dedicated to his film, radio and TV career. The displays weave in his roles as military hero, civic leader and family man.
More than 130 brand-name outlet stores comprise Grove City Premium Outlets, an open-air shopping center. The Maridon Museum in Butler spotlights Asian art and culture, coupled with German Meissen porcelain. Radio buffs must visit Checks Radio Museum in Karns City, a captivating display of more than 1,000 radios and broadcast equipment.
SOUTH Held the third weekend of September, the Covered Bridge Festival in Washington and Greene counties offers arts and crafts and home-style food. The 10 sites are only a third of the counties’ covered bridges. The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum grew from just three trolleys in 1954 to a collection of nearly 50 street and interurban railway cars. Take a short ride while there. The rugged natural beauty of Ohiopyle State Park makes it one of the country’s most popular state parks. Engage in spectacular white-water rafting, hike the trails, or fish the Youghiogheny River. During the “Over the Falls Festival” in August, kayakers take on an 18-foot waterfall.

For art that reflects our heritage, stroll the Westmoreland Museum of American Art’s innovative collections. Outdoors, savor the intimate gardens with terraces and native plantings. Honor the heroes of the Flight 93 National Memorial by exploring the grounds and Visitors Center. Plant a tree for the reforestation effort. History comes alive during Fort Ligonier Days in October. In the picturesque host town, you’ll find artisans, craft vendors, specialty shops and restaurants.
WEST Historical interpreters help you explore the restored historic structures and gardens of Old Economy Village, a National Historic Landmark in Ambridge, built between 1824 and 1830. The all-you-can-eat buttermilk and/or buckwheat pancake breakfast draws fans to the Maple Syrup Festival in Beaver Falls. Other one-of-a-kind events include the Beaver County Snow Shovel Riding Championship and the Vanport Township Chili Cook-off. Karting, racing, autocross and more – you can be a spectator or sit in the driver’s seat at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. 73
