ome to Slippery Rock University (SRU), the town is popular among college students who seek a small-town campus atmosphere. During the school year, SRU offers noteworthy performing arts series, student performances, art galleries, and sporting events to attend, providing many opportunities for cultural enrichment. Another noteworthy event in Slippery Rock is VillageFest, a street festival held in September featuring a variety of children’s activities, craft and food vendors, live entertainment, sporting events, and a farmer’s market. Kaleidoscope Arts Festival - This college town really comes to life during this event. Situated on the SRU campus and sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts, the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival showcases the best of SRU’s departments of Dance, Music, Theatre, Literary and Visual Arts. This 13-day festival also includes a Children’s Earth Day celebration along with other activities throughout the town. Old Stone House Museum - Take a tour of an historic inn built in 1822 that was used as a stagecoach stop and tavern along the Pittsburgh-Erie Pike. SRU purchased it and it is managed by faculty and students from the University’s history department. The museum is also used for special events and a variety of reenactments.

Slippery Rock Con - Sponsored by the Slippery Rock Community Library Friends, this event is a gaming and cosplay charity convention that includes role play, board, and card games, workshops, Q&A panels and more. Outdoor adventure - Slippery Rock is conveniently located and is a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts. This area offers a wide range of activities in Moraine State Park, Jennings Environmental Education Center, and on the North Country Trail. Visitors and residents take advantage of hiking, biking, kayaking, and disc golf. There’s even a disc golf course right on the university’s campus which was used as part of a world championship! WestPark Alpacas - If you’re looking for another way to explore Slippery Rock, head over to WestPark Alpacas for an up-close experience with the animals. Stop by for a visit, feed alpacas and even purchase unique souvenirs like cozy alpaca socks and scarfs. The Birdwatcher’s Store - Visit the store with the region’s largest selection of bird feeders and houses, pole systems, nesting boxes, gifts and more! This unique attraction sits on 3.5 acres of an Auduboncertified wildlife sanctuary and offers a variety of educational classes that are open to the public. Mystery Mayhem Escapes and Axe Throwing - Enjoy a fun night out with friends as you race against time to solve puzzles in an escape room or learn how to throw an axe in their indoor facility. DR Distillery - Stop in for a drink or buy a bottle of their rums or whiskeys that are handcrafted in western Pennsylvania. With a focus on local ingredients and innovative flavors, DR Distillery offers a variety of options to feature in your favorite cocktail.

North Country Brewing Company - Slippery Rock is also home to Butler County’s first brewpub, North Country Brewing Company. Critically acclaimed, this unusual pub serves sturdy fare straight from the farm and offers a large variety of handcrafted beers and sodas. North Country Canning Facility - Enjoy food and drink specials, facility tours on select dates and “Yappy Hour” on Fridays, where your dog can join in on the fun.
