here’s no need to keep trekking to Newark or even New York City for top-notch steak and Portuguese food—now that Assado Steakhouse has opened to rave reviews in Livingston, NJ. Owned and operated by Livingston resident Wilson DeSousa, Assado, a rustic and modern Portuguese Steakhouse with a classy Manhattan look and feel, has opened at 222 N. Livingston Avenue. Assado offers on- and off-premises catering for all occasions and will soon boast outdoor seating. “I love that I can share my roots of traditional Portuguese cuisine with the community,” said DeSousa, who added that people are coming from all over the state to experience Assado—the only full-service BYOB Portuguese restaurant in NJ. a Portuguese restaurant that has been located inside of the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, NJ for a decade. And, he has brought Maize’s renowned Chef Joao Viana to serve as the head chef at Assado. Assado’s menu is huge and varied with diners able to choose from a myriad of traditional dishes including a 24 oz. Grilled Cow Boy Steak, Salted Cod, or Grilled Octopus, served over peppers, onions and Portuguese olive oil; Barbeque Whole Chicken, Beef Ribs or Pork, cooked over a charcoal grill pit; and many other dishes incorporating shrimp and mariscos in green or red sauce; as well as the ever-popular Seafood Combo for Two, which includes a whole lobster with grilled scallops, clams, shrimp and calamari.
