hen Steven Goffman founded Custom Designed in 2001, his focus was on personalized custom closets, which he had been creating for almost a decade of part of a larger housewares business. Sixteen years later, the company has expanded into custom cabinetry, entertainment units, home theaters, and kitchen, bath, basement, garage and home office renovations. At Custom Designed, it typically takes two to three weeks from consultation to installation. The initial consultation is complimentary and is done at the client’s home or office. Senior Designer and Sales Manager Nancy Kornbluh notes, “When I’m meeting a client, I don’t just whip out a tape measure. I want to find out what isn’t working and what he or she is looking for; whether it’s increased function or a more attractive product – or both.”
Kornbluh finds that for many projects, clients often want to move forward immediately after seeing the sketches she and founder Goffman create. In addition to sketches, they bring the showroom to their customers - always providing samples of all materials and options – both melamine and real wood – making it easier for the client to envision the project. Home entertainment units are a favorite to design and bring to life. Goffman says, “We can create a new home entertainment unit or retrofit an existing one. People’s needs change; they may buy a larger flat-screen TV or have more kids and require more storage space. For these types of projects, we bring creative solutions to make sure the units are functional and practical.” The Custom Designed Team will work with any specialist. Goffman explains, “From decorators, architects and
