Film academy plans youths empowerment programme

AGNUS Film Academy, a major player in the film industry, has designed an empowerment programme as its corporate social responsibility, CSR, aimed at taking the youths off the streets of Lagos and getting them meaningfully engaged. The training programme which enjoys the support of the Lagos State Ministry of Youths Sports and Social Development is billed to hold at the Ikeja Youth centre between March and April 2013. The programme package entitled: “film making and media practice training” entails training on acting, voice modulation, directing, cinematography, editing, scripting (screen interpretation and screen play), the Art of making documentaries, as well as continuity and film production management. Speaking on this novel event, managing director of Magnus Film Academy,
Mr. Cyril Odenigbo, whose company recently concluded a similar training programme at the Enugu training centre, Enugu State, said the programme is open to every youth with desire and willingness to take up career in the film industry. Odenigbo explained that part of the motivation behind the programme was the fact that the film industry in Nigeria lacks a formal training and as such the vision of the film Academy is to create a solid platform for talented youths to master there craft and provide the opportunity to build a career in film production and directing. He stressed that the film making and media practice training is a youth empowerment scheme designed to reach out to the less privileged youths and members of the public who desire to take up careers in film making and media practice but are hindered by the high cost of training.
