A MESSAGE FROM JAKE KERR & JEFF MOONEY Welcome to Nat Bailey Stadium. This season we are celebrating 44 years of Vancouver Canadians Baseball as we welcome both you and our “Boys of Summer” back once again to historic Nat Bailey Stadium. 2022 is set to be a remarkable year in many ways. First and foremost, C’s baseball is back at The Nat for the first time since August 2019. So much has happened between now and then; the global pandemic wiped out the 2020 season and we spent all of 2021 playing away from home. There were times when we were not sure what the future would hold, but as caretakers of your professional baseball team we remain steadfast in our commitment to the ballclub, to you, the fans, and to this wonderful community. We cannot tell you just how excited and grateful we are to be back home. Through it all, we strive to create what we feel is the best sports experience not just in Vancouver, but in all of Minor League Baseball. We hope by the end of today’s game, you’ll agree with us. Team president Andy Dunn and his staff have been working tirelessly to ensure that our return to Nat Bailey Stadium gives you any number of opportunities to create new and lasting memories with your colleagues, friends, and loved ones. We have continued our important work through the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation. Over 300 local children will join our program this year and we look forward to getting back out in the local community through a multitude of commitments that we proudly honour. We hope that you will continue to support our team and our community alongside us. Enjoy the game and thank you for choosing to spend your time with us. We are proud to showcase the future stars of the Toronto Blue Jays for you and hope that today is another chance for you to create a memory with us all summer long. MAJORITY OWNER, MANAGING GENERAL PARTNER Born and raised in Vancouver, Jake Kerr attended the University of British Columbia before completing his MBA in Economics and Finance at the University of California at Berkeley. A Canadian business icon, Mr. Kerr has been the recipient of the Order of Canada and Order of British Columbia for his remarkable contributions to both our country and province. Taking ownership of the Canadians back in 2007, Mr. Kerr has led the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club to eight (8) franchise attendance records, multiple Larry McPhail Awards for excellence within the Northwest League, and Minor League Baseball’s most coveted accolade - the John H. Johnson President’s Trophy, awarded to MiLB’s most complete franchise.

ANDY DUNN

PRESIDENT Andy Dunn has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007, helping guide Canada's only affiliated Minor League Baseball franchise to a number of national accolades including the coveted John H. Johnson President's Trophy (2013) presented to the most complete franchise in MiLB - marking the first time in the award's 40-year history that a Canadian-based organization received the honour. Known by many in the baseball world, Andy has twice been named Florida State League Executive of the Year (1999, 2000) and also Northwest League Executive of the Year (2008), and has helped the Canadians reach new heights with 10 Northwest League awards during his tenure in Vancouver including multiple John H. Johnson & Larry MacPhail Awards

JEFF MOONEY

CO-OWNER In addition to his valuable contributions to the Vancouver Canadians, Jeff Mooney is Chairman Emeritus and a major shareholder of A&W Food Services of Canadians Inc. Today, A&W is a strategy-driven organization that has grown to over 1,000 locations across Canada. A&W has been recognized as one of the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada for the past 10 consecutive years, and in 2008, it was honoured to become an official member of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Platinum Club. Mr. Mooney is an alumnus of both the University of Saskatchewan and Harvard University Graduate School of Business. In 2003, Mr. Mooney received Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee Medal and three years later was inducted into the Restaurant Hall of Fame(2006). In 2016, Mr. Mooney was inducted into the B.C. Business Laureates Hall of Fame and this year received the Order of Canada

TOM BACKEMEYER

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT Tom, who most recently served as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Lancaster Jethawks 2014-2021. The Jethawks were the sister organization to the Vancouver Canadians held under the same ownership group of Jake Kerr and Jeff Mooney. The native of Lincoln, Nebraska has a vast background in Minor League Baseball as prior to his arrival in Lancaster, Backemeyer helped develop franchises in Nashville, Rancho Cucamonga, Fresno, and Everett. He is a graduate of Colorado State University (BA) with an MBA from the University of Denver.

ALLAN BAILEY

GENERAL MANAGER Allan Bailey has been with the Vancouver Canadians since 2007 and was appointed General Manager on September 5th, 2018, after spending the previous seven seasons as the organization's Assistant General Manager. Allan has led several departments during his tenure with the C's including the Nat Bailey Stadium Box Office and its ticket operations as well as his more recent efforts in Team Operations handling everything from player housing and travel right through to Information Technology (IT). Born in Victoria, B.C., and raised on the Lower Mainland's Sunshine Coast, Allan completed his education at McGill University while playing five seasons with the McGill Redbirds baseball program. Prior to university, Allan played for the NorthShore Twins of the B.C. Premier League

WALTER COSMAN

VICE PRESIDENT OF SALES & MARKETING With more than 20 years of Sales& Marketing experience here in Vancouver, Walter decided to put those skills to work in the sport he's most passionate about, baseball. With a B.A. from the University of New Brunswick, Walter has worked with Proctor & Gamble, Molson Canda, Granville Island Brewing and Steamworks Brewing. Walter was also General Manager of Petcurean leading a staff of more than70 people. With a longstanding corporate partnership with the Canadians prior to his arrival in May of 2019, Walter joins our club fully aware of the standard that has put the C's among the best in Minor League Baseball

STEVEN MAISEY

MANAGER OF TICKETING OPERATIONS Steven enters his third season with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club, and his first as Manager of Ticket Operations. After graduating from Langara College with a diploma in Recreation Leadership Management, and interning for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Steven began his career with the Canadians on the operations side of the club, spending the two seasons (2018 – 19) as a member of the A&B Tools Rental Grounds Crew. Steven transitioned into his current role as Manager of Ticket Operations in January 2020, and looks to maintain the service standards that fans have come to expect of the Canadians. In the offseason, Steven volunteers his time as a skills coach for the Vancouver Thunderbirds Minor Hockey. 10 / VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022

STEPHANI ELLIS

ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER Returning for her seventh season with the Vancouver Canadians Stephani handles a wide variety of key organizational elements including Group Sales as well as the C's social media platforms. She was promoted to Assistant General Manager role prior to the 2019 season and was the recipient of the 2019 Northwest League Female Executive of the Year for her work with the C's. After a standout collegiate softball career at California University of PA where Stephani played for the Vulcans and was named a Regional All-American, the Prince of Wales Secondary graduate and former Team BC member began her marketing career with the Canadians. Stephani works in concert with group leaders who expect the Canadians to provide an excellent ballpark experience with each visit out at Nat Bailey Stadium.

BRENDA CHMILIAR

FINANCIAL CONTROLLER Brenda is entering her 15th season out at Nat Bailey Stadium but her second as Financial Controller for the Vancouver Canadians. She spent the first 10 years with Aramark Food Services in the company's financial division, dividing her time between at Nat Bailey Stadium and Rogers Arena. Brenda is responsible for all aspects of the Vancouver Canadians financial operations. She is right at home here at Nat Bailey Stadium, as much of her childhood was spent playing baseball on the local fields in Kamloops

CHARLENE YAROSHUK

ACCOUNTING COORDINATOR Charlene is excited to be entering her 4th season with the Vancouver Canadians as their Accounting Coordinator. In 2020 she graduated from Kwantlen Polytechnic University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Growing up in the Vancouver area she spent most of her free time practicing martial arts and currently has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

TYLER ZICKEL

MANAGER OF BROADCASTING & MEDIA RELATIONS Tyler joined the Canadians in 2021 for his fourth season in the Blue Jays organization and seventh in MiLB. Before the C's, Tyler served as the Director of Promotions & Entertainment and Road Radio Broadcaster for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Over the course of three seasons in Manchester, he oversaw the entire in-game presentation and promotions departments while traveling throughout the Eastern League calling 'Cats games. He began his MiLB career in 2014 as a communications intern for the Advanced-A Lake Elsinore Storm in Southern California and was promoted twice in three years. As Assistant Director of Marketing and Director of Digital Content, respectively, Tyler was heavily involved in growing the team's online presence.

CHARLES O'NEILL

MANAGER OF STADIUM OPERATIONS Charles joins the Canadians in 2022 after working for a variety for baseball clubs including the Long Island Ducks, and the New York Mets. He brings a wealth of knowledge from his prior experiences to Nat Bailey Stadium. He previously completed his Bachelors of Sports Management from Farmingdale State College in New York.

He earned his B.A. in English from Whittier College in Los Angeles, where he played on the Poets baseball team and was elected Student Body President.

KENDRA CHIN

MARKETING COORDINATOR Kendra joins the C’s Marketing department for her first full season of baseball. She has recently completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with specialization in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Prior to joining the team at The Nat, she worked for several years in the health & fitness industry. Her goal is to intertwine her passion for sports with her business background. In her spare time, she is coaching basketball to inner city kids. This Vancouverite also likes spending her free time playing basketball, tennis, golf, and skiing.

LEVI WEBSTER

HEAD GROUNDSKEEPER Levi is no stranger to the Northwest League, with prior experience with the Spokane Indians as their Head Groundskeeper at Avista Stadium. His talents have also allowed him to be the field manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the Spring Training Facility in Arizona. The Colton, WA native graduated from Washington State University with a Double Major in Turfgrass Management and Fruit and Vegetable Management and two minors in Horticulture and Agricultural Systems. In his time away from the ballpark, you can find him on the golf course, weight training or enjoying time with family and friends.

Joining the club for the 2016 season, Jacob began his time with the C’s in the Box Office, first as a Ticket Sales Representative, then as Box Office Assistant, with his transition to sales coming at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

After graduating from Brock University in St. Catharines ON with a degree in Sport Management, Owen completed an internship for a local athlete representation company doing sales and marketing prior to the start of the

Jacob graduated from the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan in 2021 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance. When Jacob’s away from the Nat, you can find him watching Blue Jays baseball, Seahawks football, or, if he’s lucky, ice fishing in Saskatchewan.

SALES ASSOCIATE Owen enters his first season with the Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club as a Sales Associate.

He brings a great deal of passion for sports and customer service to the team. In his spare time, Owen loves reading books, working out, and spending his summertime at Kitsilano Beach, a 5 min walk from his apartment.

LANE DEPLAEDT

SALES ASSOCIATE Cooper is a former Langley Blaze pitcher, took his talents south of the border to play for both Galveston College and at Central Washington University. He graduated from CWU with a Sports Management degree with a specialization in Business. Prior to joining the Canadians, he was a member of the Ground Crew at Northview Golf & Country Club.

SALES ASSOCIATE Lane joins the C’s for his first season in Minor League Baseball after recently working with the Coquitlam Express Junior A Hockey Club in Game Day Operations. He is recently graduated from Thompson Rivers University with a bachelor’s or Business Administration with a Major in Marketing.

While away from the ballpark he enjoys spending time in his hometown of Port Moody or playing golf.

STEINER STORIES: ADDISON BARGER When Addison Barger joined the Vancouver Canadians earlier this year, he came to the club a little bit different than his teammates. For most players in the Northwest League, the focus is just on baseball, but there’s a lot more to it for Barger.

At 22-years-old and in his fourth season of professional baseball, Barger has a wife and a 1-year-old daughter, both in Florida while he plays in Vancouver. Still, it’s just one thing that separates him from the status quo. “It adds a bit of pressure because you have a wife and kid to support,” Barger told Canadiansbaseball.com about his family that came to watch him in Hillsboro earlier this season. “I got to play in front of her [my daughter] last year in Dunedin, and I hit a home run for her, so that was pretty cool, but she was very little.” The Toronto Blue Jays' sixth-round selection from the 2018 MLB Draft is a rarity in Single-A and High-A baseball, playing in the league with a spouse and a child. Still, he is obsessed with baseball and bringing success to himself and the Vancouver Canadians. Homeschooled from the start, baseball was always the plan. While his three older brothers never excelled in the game, the baseball diamond in the backyard at the Barger home in Bellevue, Washington, just down the I-5 from Vancouver was where Addison fell in love with the sport “It was primitive, but I grew up with that, so I was on the field a lot more than I was in the classroom,” he said. “It was all baseball all the time since I was five or six years old; I would be playing out there for five or so hours a day.” While it wasn’t until the age of 10 that playing professionally became the goal, there had been a clear outset from Barger and his baseball-loving father from a young age. From when he was 10, though, he thought he could make something of a life in baseball. In 2018, sitting in his living room with roughly 30 other family members, that dream turned to reality when the Blue Jays called his name with the 176th pick. “I think my dad loves baseball more than I do, but I’m the only baseball player in the family,” Barger said.

11 years removed from when he began to target a professional career, Barger is finding success with the Canadians in his first season with the club. Through 116 at bats, he is batting at a .267 clip, with 28 RBI, and has established himself as a mainstay in Brent Lavallee’s lineup. Despite not getting a chance to see much of Vancouver yet, Barger has settled into the team and the situation in the Northwest League. After all, it’s near where he grew up, so the early season conditions are no surprise to him. Away from the diamond, not only can he be found talking to his wife and kid on the phone, but he is also one of the team’s few musicians, bringing his guitar on the road and entertaining the team in their living setup in Vancouver. Like his father, who brought him to baseball, Addison found his way to music through a similar path. Picking up the guitar at 12-years-old, he doesn't fancy himself a future singer, but can entertain his family and teammates with a little bit of Justin Bieber, a fitting artist for playing in Canada, “Maybe it’s annoying,” he said of his musical talents, “I don’t know if anyone is a good singer, but [Hunter] Gregory can sing a little bit.” When the Blue Jays inked Barger to a contract back in 2018, he was a much different young man. No wife and no established play at a high level, just a fresh-faced prospect committed to the NCAA’s University of Florida Gators. However, three years later, he has found his place in the organization and is a critical member of the 2022 Canadians two months into the season. While his young family is over 5,000 kilometres away, Barger has established himself in the minor leagues in 2022 but sees team success as essential in his baseball career at the moment. “I just want us to start winning more and get first place in the standings,” he said. “If we can have a really good run for the rest of the year, then each individual will have a good year too.”

The Canadians are a part of the Toronto Blue Jays organization. The C’s are a High A affiliate of the Blue Jays. That means they are in the middle of the Toronto farm system, slightly higher than the Dunedin Blue Jays (Low A) and the Gulf Coast Blue Jays (Rookie). Baseball players work their way up through the organization in hopes of getting to the big leagues. Toronto is in the American League and pulls its talent from these teams. HOW TO SCORE A BASEBALL GAME Different fans have different methods of keeping a scorecard, and many use their own notations. But here's a simple method:

If a runner scores, put a circle at the bottom of the box, and inside the circle put the symbol of the play and/or the player that drove him in. For example, if the No. 5 hitter drives in two runs with a single, mark his single in the bottom right of his box and mark a circle with the number "5" in the boxes of the runners who score (Some people like to use uniform numbers here, so you can tell who did what, even after lineup changes).

For example, If the hitter grounds out to shortstop, for example, write in "6-3," which shows the shortstop threw him out at first base. If the hitter flies out to left field, write a "7." If the batter gets a hit, write in the hit according to which base he reached. Each corner of the box represents a base, with the lowerright corner being first.

At the end of each inning, total the hits and runs for that inning only. At the end of the game you'll be able to add the innings total to get the game score.

If he singles, put a "-" in the lower right. If he doubles, write a "=" in the upper right, and so on. For a walk, use "BB" in the lower right. As the runner advances, mark the appropriate symbol in the appropriate corner.

Each week, we’ll feature a conversation between Niall O’Donohoe of C’s Plus Baseball and one member of the Canadians roster. Niall caught up with reliever Garrett Farmer to find out more about his past, what he’s working on this season and how his first Nat Bailey Stadium experiences have been.

C’S CHAT: GARRETT FARMER The 25-year-old from Huntsville, Alabama joined the Toronto Blue Jays organization by signing as a free agent April 12, just less than a month after being released by the Baltimore Orioles. Farmer was drafted by the O’s in the 25th round of the 2019 MLB draft out of Jacksonville State and received a $35,000 signing bonus.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-hander pitched for four seasons with the Gamecocks after attending Buckhorn High School in Alabama where he was teammates with Atlanta Braves hurler Kyle Wright, the fifth pick of the 2017 draft. Farmer spent his freshman season in 2016 mostly as a reliever where he earned two saves and split eight decisions, striking out 42 batters in 49-2/3 innings. He joined the Gamecocks rotation in the 2017 campaign and did not give up a home run, hit a batter or throw a wild pitch in his three starts. However, he wound up missing the rest of the year with an arm injury. Farmer bounced back with a big 2018 campaign as he was named to the All-Ohio Valley Conference 2nd Team after going 7-2 with a 3.90 earned run average and striking out 107 batters in 90 innings. In 2019, Farmer took things to the next level by winning the 2019 OVC Pitcher of the Year Award. He won five of seven decisions and posted a 110-16 K/BB total in 105-1/3 innings to go along with a 2.56 ERA. After being drafted by the Orioles, Farmer reported to the Gulf Coast League Orioles that summer and made his professional debut with a shutout inning against the GCL Braves June 25. He lost his first two decisions but picked up three wins in the month of August. Farmer’s first win came with two shutout innings of one-hit ball with four strikeouts against the GCL Pirates August 3. His second win came August 12 against the GCL Rays with two more scoreless frames but his best outing came against the GCL Twins where he allowed just one hit and struck out seven in three innings August 21. Farmer finished up that year with a 1.21 ERA by not allowing a run over 11 innings during the month of August in which he struck out 17 batters with zero walks. After COVID wiped out minor league baseball in 2020, Farmer threw his next professional pitch in 2021 with the Aberdeen IronBirds in the High-A East/South Atlantic League. He recorded his first professional save with two strikeouts over two shutout innings against the Wilmington Blue Rocks May 7. He finished the month of May with two saves and 9-1/3 shutout innings. Farmer had a tough June and July but got back on the beam in August

with a 1.32 ERA. He finished the year with eight saves in nine opportunities and two holds to go along with a 3.71 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a .246 opponents batting average. Farmer’s organizational debut in the Blue Jays system came April 22 with the Canadians when he tossed a pair of perfect innings against the Eugene Emeralds at Nat Bailey Stadium. He also supplied another shutout frame against the Everett AquaSox at The Nat May 6. Vancouver Canadians Garrett Farmer C’s Plus Baseball caught up with Farmer recently to talk about his recent signing with the Blue Jays. The transcript has been edited for clarity. C’s Plus Baseball – Let’s talk about first off how you wound up with the Blue Jays. You were with the Orioles and then you hook up with the Blue Jays. How did that all break down? Garrett Farmer – It was quite fast actually. At the start of 2022, I was with the Orioles and I went to spring training with them. I did very well but there just wasn’t a roster spot for me at the end of it. And just with the business of baseball, I ended up getting released. And not even 48 hours later, I was a Blue Jay. It was a very fast and very exciting time for me and I’m very excited to be here. CPB – Who made contact with you from the Blue Jays? GF – Joe Sheehan did. He texted me. I was actually at my friend’s birthday party. I had gotten released on Friday. His birthday was on Saturday. I drove back home and we were celebrating his birthday. When I got the call, it was like I said, it was completely unexpected. And you know, I was thrilled. CPB – Talk about your time with your Orioles. It seemed like you had a couple of decent (seasons) there, but as you said, it just kind of a numbers game. Talk about your time with Baltimore. GF – I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot while I was there and I made a lot of good friends. I think I became more culturally diversified, just meeting more people from the West Coast and playing with teammates all over the place. You know, it’s really fun and I really enjoyed my time but you know, like I said, like you said, it’s a business, it’s a business, it just happens sometimes. CPB – Talk about your draft day experience getting picked by the VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022 / 33

Orioles out of Jacksonville State. Were you following the draft or how did you find out? GF – I was following the draft kind of hard. I was really hoping to get picked up on day two, but kind of fell short. So when day three started, I knew (I needed) to be in front of the computer screen. And when we got to round 20s, you know calls started coming in and the Orioles was the team.

CPB – What would you say is your next best pitch. Everyone always likes the fastball as number one but is there a favorite secondary pitch? GF – The slider. I love it. I will live and die by that slider. It’s a pitch that I can trust in any count (whether it’s) 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2. Really when I’m trying to get the hitter off balance, I can really rely on that pitch.

CPB – Did you have any idea it was going to be the Orioles? Did you think maybe there was another team that maybe you might have gone to?

CPB – Was there anyone who helped you develop this ladder? Did you learn that by yourself or is there somebody who maybe showed you a grip or something like that?

GF – I might have been getting sweet talks by a couple other teams, right? But you know, ultimately, the Orioles were the ones that picked me up in the 25th.

GF – It was kind of my first breaking ball that I really developed and it kind of just took off from there. You’re not really throwing big banger curveballs when you’re 13-14 years old. So I kind of learned this little slider and it just took off from there. Just with age, it developed and it became a really good pitch.

CPB – Talk about your time at Jacksonville State. How did that help you develop as a pitcher? GF – More mentally than anything. I think going in there at such a young age, I went there at 18 just playing with older guys. It kind of gave you the mental edge to be a little tougher on the mound. It definitely rounded me out to just to be a better overall pitcher, you know, just to trust my stuff, use my stuff to get soft contact and get outs. CPB – Talk about your pitching repertoire. What is it that you throw? GF – I throw fastball, change up, curveball and slider, and my pitching philosophy is just to stay over the plate. I like to force soft contact and pitch to the corners of the zone. CPB – Is the fastball a four-seam, a two-seam or cutter. What do you throw? GF – I throw a four-seam and it has a lot of ride to it as baseball players would say. So it kind of stays up in the zone a little more so I’m able to use it more up in the zone. And really throw some offspeed off of it. 34 / VANCOUVER CANADIANS 2022

CPB – Who’s helped you develop as a pitcher growing up and throughout college? Who’s helped you out along the way? GF – Just the people back at home. Jim Case, my head baseball coach. He also doubled as the pitching coach at Jacksonville State and he was good at the mental game. He really helped me trust my stuff. I think physical maturity really helped me just grow into a better pitcher too. I was really small going into college so really getting into the weight room and getting bigger really helped me add on that extra velo and just made me a dog on the mound. It was just more mental than anything else and it gave me the reps I really needed. Sometimes you go into the game with a plan and you just need to see it execute before you really finally see it out and trust it. And that’s what I did at Jacksonville State. there a favorite major league team you have or anyone you followed?

GF – No, I kind of lived all over the place growing up. I lived a little bit in Michigan so we had a little stint where we were pulling for the Tigers. They were good when we lived there. When you’re from Alabama, everybody is a Braves fan. So I guess my family kind of follows the Braves a little more than most. But no, we’re birds. We call ourselves the “Bird Family”. My brother went to a bird college. I went to a bird college. I got drafted by the Orioles, was a bird and then now I’m with the Blue Jays so we call ourselves a family of birds.

GF – It is a change of pace, I will say that. There’s some things that the guys like about it and there’s some things that the guys don’t really like about it. I do see the pace of play change right at the games are ending a little faster, but I think baseball is a more strategic, slower sport. So do I like it? Yes, but do I think there could be some modification? Yes, absolutely.

CPB – Is there anyone maybe you would compare yourself to in the majors? Or is there a pitcher you really enjoy falling?

GF – Yeah, absolutely. I just like to take deep breaths. I think I’m the loudest breather, I would say. I always take a huge breath and just let it all out and just collect myself before I throw. It’s a little routine I do before I throw.

GF – Oh, I love Hendricks from the Cubs. I think he really competes with soft stuff. I think he kind of pitches like I do where he’s not looking excessively for Ks but he’s looking for good, soft contact and living in the zone and hitting corners of the zone. CPB – How do you like pitching out of the bullpen so far? GF – I really do enjoy it. You know, that was one thing that kind of changed for me when I went to pro ball is that the Orioles kind of put me in the pen as well, long relief, and I really enjoyed it. I just feel like you could come into any situation in the game is yours to finish, right? You know, as a starter, you kind of start the ball, get the ball rolling, but you don’t really ever get to finish it. I love coming in and making the final statement. I really enjoy that. CPB – How do you enjoy pitching at Nat Bailey Stadium so far? GF – It’s amazing. You know the crowds here are amazing. I didn’t know what to expect. I haven’t really been to Canada much, being from Alabama. Being in the stadium, listening to everybody sing ‘Oh Canada’ and just being by your side when you strike out that final guy for the final out. It’s amazing, it’s electric here.

CPB – How do you try to slow down or calm down on the mound because I’m sure you got the adrenaline going when you’re when you first hit the mound?

CPB – You’ve had a chance in Dunedin to look at the Player Development Complex. How does that helped you develop? GF – Tremendously, actually. Going in there they had this pitching lab that I had never experienced before, so I was able to get this really cool data and really just get the ball rolling on developmental things. It’s state of the art down there. It’s amazing. They got cameras. It’s quite spectacular what they got going down there and it’s really exciting for the Blue Jays. CPB – What are your goals for 2022 now that you’re here with Vancouver? GF – Win the thing, you know. We’re not here playing 140 games just for fun. You know we want to get this team rolling. We lost a couple games back but I think we got a solid team and I feel like we can really take off if we get the ball rolling. A fun fact about Farmer—he is superstitious about wearing game socks inside-out according to his Jacksonville State University bio.

FORMER C’S – WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

CANADIANS: 2017 CURRENTLY: OAKLAND A’S

If there’s any former Blue Jays minor leaguer who knows what it’s like to pick up and move midway through the season, it’s former Canadians starter Zach Logue. The Mason, OH native was Toronto’s ninth round pick (279th overall) in 2017 out of Kentucky and arrived in Vancouver on July 14, 2017 after three weeks in Bluefield. He made his C’s debut that day to the tune of two innings with one unearned run on one hit with one walk and a career-high (for that season) five strikeouts. Logue went on to appear in eight more regular season games for the eventual Northwest League champs and finished the year with a 3-1 record and a 1.75 ERA in 24.2 innings with 28 strikeouts and six walks. He went 1-0 in two postseason appearances and allowed a lone run – a solo homer – in seven innings.

ZACH LOGUE Playing for multiple teams in one season would soon become the norm for the lefty. Logue split 2018 with Low-A Lansing and High-A Dunedin and won a combined 12 games in 27 appearances with 129 Ks and 34 walks across 154.1 innings. 2019 would be another dual-team season, albeit an uneven split; he began with Double-A New Hampshire, made one appearance with Triple-A Buffalo then returned to the Fisher Cats where he logged a total of 101 Eastern League innings. He was back

with the ‘Cats to begin 2021 then ascended to the Bisons, where he starred in the International League to the tune of a 9-3 record and a 3.32 ERA in 89.1 frames.

Logue seemed poised to compete for a spot on the big league roster when Spring Training 2022 arrived, but it wouldn’t be for a job in Toronto. The southpaw was traded to Oakland in the Matt Chapman deal, reported to Triple-A Las Vegas, made two starts for the Aviators then was informed that his next appearance wouldn’t be in the

Pacific Coast League; Logue was called up by the A’s and made his MLB debut on April 19 against Baltimore and worked an inning and a third of scoreless relief with a walk, a hit and a strikeout. He was sent back to Triple-A the next day.

As of this writing, Logue is in the big leagues after returning from the Aviators on May 20. He has amassed a 2-3 record with a 4.43 ERA in five games (four starts) that have spanned 22.1 MLB innings.
