T

he U.S. women won the team gold medal, which means they have won 12 of the 14 women’s team titles in Pan Am Games history. The U.S. team scored a 219.750 to win the gold medal over Canada and Brazil. Bridgette Caquatto continued the winning streak and became the seventh consecutive U.S. woman to win the all-around title and the 11th overall. Caquatto scored a 55.875. She also collected the uneven bars gold medal with her 14.525, followed by Shawn Johnson, who captured the silver at 14.500.

Brandie Jay, a newcomer to international competition, earned her second gold of the competition on vault after executing a Yurchenko double full and a layout Podkopayeva for a two-vault average of 14.337. She also was fifth in the all-around. Also representing the USA for the first time, Jessie DeZiel advanced to the floor exercise finals, where she was sixth.
