Steve Penny USA Gymnastics President

National Gymnastics Day continues to be successful due to the efforts of our Member Clubs. In parh1ership with the Children's Miracle Network, we have raised $500,000 during the past five years for local children's hospitals! Congratulations to Gymnastics World in Broadview Heights, Ohio, w ho raised the most dollars of any club in the country in supp ort of the Children's Miracle Network for the third straight year. And Meaghan Sweeney, one of Gymnastics World's gymnasts, is the single largest fundraiser for the second consecutive year. Recent World Championships were held for Trampoline and Tumbling in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku, Azerbaijan. Congratulations to the 13 Trampoline and Tumbling athletes who stood atop the podium and captured USA Gymnastics' first World Championship medals of the new quadrennium. The performance was unprecedented, winning three team medals (2 silver, 1 bronze), including the first ever trampoline medal (Women's Team). Congratulations to Keith Douglas on his silver medal in double-mini trampoline! We are proud of all of our USA athletes who have represented USA Gymnastics in international competition this fall. The u.s. men and women brought home 12 medals from the Pan American Championships, as well as securing a berth for the USA in the 2007 Pan American Games. Eleven medals were earned at both the Mexican Invitational and th e Junior Japan Invitational, and another seven medals were added at the Massilia Gym Cup in France. Photos and results from each of these events are included in this issu e. The next big event is the World Artistic Championships, November 21-27, in Melbourne, Australia. This year, all-around and individual event champions w ill be crowned. As we saw at the Visa Championships, the next generation is ready to fill the shoes of their predecessors and shine on the world stage. World Championship Sports Network (WCSN) will broadcast the event live via the Web. To follow the action, go to usa-gymnastics.org and click through to WCSN's Web site. Lastly, we want to recognize Shalmon Miller and the 1984 Men's Olympic Team, who are part of the 2006 class for the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. They will be inducted for their athletic accomplishments at a ceremony on December 8 in Chicago. USA Gymnastics extends its congratulations to Shannon, the Men's Team and the entire class of 2006 for this distinguished honor. On behalf of the USA Gymnastics Board and staff, best w ishes for a h appy and festive holiday season and a su ccessful and prosperous New Year! Sincerely,

USA GYMNASTICS

Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf Coast, USA Gymnastics has seen an outpouring of concern and support from the gymnastics community. To assist members of our gymnastics famil y we have launched a Hurricane Relief Message Board on our Web site. We also support the fundraising efforts of the Region 8 Hurricane Relief Fund, which provides a centralized effort to help those members of the gymnastics community in need. I encourage you to consider a contribution to this fund, which is being overseen by a steering committee of regional representatives and will assist needy members in all five USA Gymnastics disciplines. To donate online, go to usa-gymnastics.org and click on the Hurricane Assistance balmer.
