approximately twice as many IDPs as refugees. Protracted crises in five countries—Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Iraq, Nigeria, South Sudan and Syria—accounted for 60 per cent of new IDPs. In 2014, 51 per cent of refugees were under 18 years. The proportion of of refugee girls and women has gradually increased from 48 per cent in 2011 to 50 per cent in 2014.
