The Statistical Yearbook is an annual compilation of a wide range of international economic, social and environmental statistics on over 200 countries and areas, compiled from sources including UN agencies and other international, national and specialized organizations. The 58th edition contains data available to the Statistics Division as of 31 December 2014 and presents them in 42 tables on topics such as: agriculture, forestry and fishing; communication; development assistance; education; energy; environment; finance; gender; international merchandise trade, etc. Most tables cover the period up to 2012 or 2013. Accompanying the tables are technical notes providing brief descriptions of major statistical concepts, definitions and classifications.

For the first time the Yearbook is aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It offers current trends and emerging topics in the Asia-Pacific region, grouped around the themes of people, the environment, the economy and connectivity. It provides the international and regional community with key indicators, objective analyses of the current trends and emerging issues, along with data and charts. The Yearbook comprises four chapters: Chapter One covers demographic and social indicators with special efforts to mainstream the gender perspective in statistical information and to encompass poverty-related topics. The second chapter presents economic statistics relating to trade, balance of payments and domestic prices, as well as national accounts. Chapter Three provides quantitative information on the environment., and the last chapter deals with methodology and metadata, supplementing the more specific information contained in the footnotes to each of the tables in this Yearbook.
