World Survey on the Role of Women in Development

United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women Ensuring economic empowerment of women and their access to - and control over - resources requires an integrated approach to growth and development. This publication argues that this should be focused on gender-responsive employment promotion and should take into account the interdependency between economic and social development. Social objectives need to be incorporated into economic policies. Economic growth strategies should take into account the real economy. Focus should be on creating gender-sensitive environments, full employment and decent work. Women’s access to land, property, and other productive resources, as well as financial services, and full social protection must also be addressed. This publication contains concrete recommendations in these critical areas, which if adopted, will facilitate women’s equitable access to - and control over - resources.
