Study the art of risk – measuring, assessing, managing and mitigating risk – and sometimes profiting from it. Actuarial Science is a small but growing profession that’s challenging, well-paid and stimulating. Combining fields such as mathematics and economics, it will help you develop skillsets that are in demand in today’s world. ABOUT YOU You’re strong on mathematics and have an interest in business and economics. You’re fascinated by world events and you’re not afraid to take an educated gamble. You want to learn how to look to the future from a business perspective, assess the likely impact, then put a price on mitigating that risk. ABOUT US At UEA, you’ll benefit from our excellent links with industry, both in teaching and research. We collaborate closely with Aviva, one of the largest insurance companies in the world. Their expert employees participate in teaching modules on our Actuarial Sciences programmes. This allows you to learn more about the work of actuaries and the potential career paths open to you, and gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge with a focus on industry. Our multidisciplinary courses draw on expertise from across the Schools of Computing Sciences, Mathematics, and Economics. Much of our work is concerned with real-world applications, providing you with programmes that will prepare you for your next step. YOUR FUTURE CAREER We work with the University’s careers service to offer you support at every stage of your course, from choosing a career path through to applying for graduate jobs. Our courses are accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), so depending on how you perform academically, you could fast-track your route to qualification by earning exemptions to some of the professional actuarial examinations. In some cases, you could expect to be qualified in as little as two or three years after your degree.
