The Village of Skokie is known for its many festivals and celebrations – filling the calendar with more fests than any other North Shore community. The community bubbles with excitement and an abundance of special events throughout the summer months.

APRIL

SKOKIE’S SPRING GREENING Celebrations begin with Skokie’s Spring Greening. The event, which just finished its sixth year, promotes sustainable and green living. Features include a recycling event, an indoor fair featuring green products and services, the sale of repurposed crafts, family activities and music.

Now in its ninth year, the Taste of Skokie Valley features the mouth-watering flavors of 19 of Skokie’s finest restaurants and specialty shops. The celebration of gourmet food at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie is a charitable event co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Skokie Valley and the Chamber of Commerce, benefiting various community causes.

MAY The Skokie Festival of Cultures celebrates Skokie’s rich diversity. Since its inception in 1991, the event has become one of the premier ethnic festivals in the state, attracting more than 38,000 visitors each year. Guests enjoy two days of ethnic folk music and dance, food, unique arts, children’s games, a merchandise grand bazaar and dozens of cultural booths.

Wednesdays on the Green is presented by the Skokie Chamber of Commerce & Industry in cooperation with the Village of Skokie, Skokie Park District, Skokie Public Library and the Independent Merchants of Downtown Skokie to bring another summer of FREE festivities beginning at 7 p.m. from June to August. Bring a blanket or folding chair to enjoy a variety of musical entertainment and family fun. The sounds of summer come alive as artists including Skydeck, the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, the Empty Pockets, Hillbilly Rockstars, Chicago Soul Revue and others celebrate music in this wonderful open-air venue. In addition, many Downtown Skokie restaurants offer specials and dining discounts on Wednesday nights throughout the summer. Kaleidoscope Dance studios “gets on the moves” with musical acts such as Spoken Four and Shout Out. Exciting family and children’s programs are presented by the Skokie Public Library and are sure to captivate young and old alike. As a special bonus, 2016-2017 Community Guide & Business Directory
