In 2007, Harford Day lost a very close friend of the school in a tragic accident. Today’s tournament is being dedicated in memory of Gary Michael Jastrab whose contributions to the school were endless and who had a profound effect on all who knew and loved him.
Gary played in Harford Day’s Golf Tournament for 16 years. Gary used to tell his wife, Barbara, and son, Greg, every morning to. . . “Make Someone

Happy Today,”— so today we will be honoring a golfer for his dedication, enthusiasm, and for his love of Harford Day School.
Following Gary’s death, his wife and a close friend wrote the following passage which we like to share each year at our tournament.
In Memory of Gary M. Jastrab
Life is like a round of golf
It’s ne’er the same game twice
A gentleman’s game of life
Reduced to 18 holes of fun
Rounds are best when paired with friends, And I have known the best
The times we’ve shared meant all to me
Swing true, keep playing on
I took the time upon the course
To stop along the way
A lesson taught, a hand to lend
My scorecard tells the tale
And though life sent its hooks and traps
I felt each day was blessed
I got the best of everything
My family, work, and friends
My stories, some you may recall Might bring a smile still
My life, I hope touched you well My love was strong and true
And though I had to pass you by Play through these last few holes Just know in a beat, a chord, a song That I am with you still
Don’t grieve because my game is done Rejoice because it was I lived to bless, was blessed to live I call that a hole in one.
