tech n o lo g y by Robb James There have been many incredible discoveries and inventions over the last couple hundred years but we are really living in exciting times. We are living in and witnessing an incredible digital-technology revolution that is moving exponentially faster every day. This digital era is evolving so fast that the sooner we embrace it, if we already have not the better. All of us are users of digital technology in some form and many of us embrace technology in our jobs and personal lives. I have a 97 year old neighbor who is very proficient on the computer and it has helped her stay connected with friends and very relevant in their lives and it has helped her live a much longer, happy life. Quality of life is one of technologies greatest attributes. The ability to work remotely from anywhere in the world provides freedom and choice. Technology also allows primary employers the ability to locate in beautiful rural areas like Erie. Erie has much more though than just being a beautiful rural area with some of the most incredible views on the Front Range. Erie is located in the heart of the Colorado version of ‘Silicon Valley’. In the mid-‘90’s and the early 2000’s, Colorado was a large participant in the dot.com era

which ended quickly and became known as the ‘dot.bomb’ era. High-tech talent flocked to Colorado during this time and many of these people fell in love with Colorado and stayed. This is one reason why Colorado continues to be a technology leader with more and more, well known technology companies moving business to Colorado. There are also still a number of Venture Capital firms that call Colorado their home to help new technology start-ups in Colorado. Erie finds itself right in the middle of the action, surrounded by Downtown Denver, Boulder, Golden, Broomfield, Fort Collins, Longmont, Louisville and many other great cities. In addition, Erie is surrounded by great universities such as University of Colorado, Colorado School of Mines, University of Denver and Colorado State University. Erie also enjoys its very own airport and is only 30 minutes from an international airport. I have been in many different technology sectors over the last 25 years and currently work for Hewlett Packard focusing on cybercrime and security. My responsibilities are nationwide but thanks to technology I can accomplish most of my work from my home in Erie, CO.

In future columns I would like to focus on different areas of technology and also on specific devices that affect our everyday lives. It is my pleasure to call Erie home and to call Erie residents my neighbor. Please share your comments with me via Robb@RobbCapital.com. I look forward to sharing your ideas in future columns.
