Ignite Your Legacy On A Global Scale

BY: Lady JB Owen

Legacy is often difficult to define because it means something unique to each of us. Yet one undeniable thing about legacy is that it is important to all of us.

Everyone dreams of leaving something behind, whether it is fond memories for our families, a thriving business passed on, or even an innovative idea that persists in the minds of people worldwide. Legacy creates impact in various ways, and every single person can build a lasting, inspiring legacy. We can all build our legacies and be leaders if we nurture the gifts and talents within us as well as use them to ignite positive change because leadership and legacy go hand in hand.

The first step to legacy is having a purpose that fuels you, and a drive to make that dream come true. You could dream of ending world hunger, creating a world where everyone is literate, or building a community of like-minded people committed to spiritual growth. Dreams are as limitless and unique as we are. Having one is just the beginning, and from there, you must be willing to step into a leadership role to make that dream a reality.

Nurturing your purpose and stepping up as a leader allows you to fulfill your dreams for your legacy and impact. The good thing is these are two pieces of legacy growth that are possible for everyone.

One of the greatest ways to ignite your purpose and grow as a leader is to be a constant learner. Seek mentors - either those you'll only meet once at a training event or someone you can call anytime for wisdom. Have a variety of mentors who come from different backgrounds and create legacies and impacts that are varied but all meaningful.

When we are willing to learn broadly from many mentors, we can start to sketch our legacy and learn various tools to help us. When we are eager to learn profoundly and explore the wisdom one trusted mentor can offer, we discover stories and experiences that fill in that sketch and bring meaning and nuance that further our skills and knowledge. Both these kinds of learning are essential to legacy.

Everyone is capable of being a legacy maker and a legacy leader. When nurtured by mentorship, your inner spark, determination, and values can evolve into a global impact. Legacy requires a passion for your purpose, an endless curiosity for the ideas and stories others share, a willingness to lead, and a desire to create authentic connections with others.

With mentorship and determination, anything is possible, and anyone with a powerful dream or a great idea can turn the beliefs and values they hold into a tangible impact that will benefit people on a broader and deeper scale for generations to come. This impact and lasting legacy are within all of our grasp.

Know this: If you genuinely love humanity and want to better it, you will. If you want to change the world, you will. Step into that mindset. Step into the knowledge that you are the driving force for positive change. The values you hold can shape all of us and can be the catalyst that connects you with incredible people that inspire and push you to step into your greatness.

Here are a few tips I use so I can be legacy and impact-focused:

-Ask mentors for stories instead of advice, because every personal story often has incredible golden nuggets of wisdom that are more empowering and inspiring than advice can be. It forces a valuable change of perspective.

-Let your purpose inform your actions, and be intentional about all you do. If you’ve got a great business opportunity or have met an amazing person who wants to work with you, check-in and ensure these possibilities align with the purpose and values that matter to you. Anything that doesn't align isn't worth your time. Say yes to what is meaningful to you.

-Carrying the confidence and greatness of a leader within you starts with the belief that you are capable. One way I silence the inner critic and reinforce a positive mindset is to keep track of all the wins, big or small, that happen to me. In moments of uncertainty, these reminders of what you’ve accomplished are essential.

Lastly, mentorship and mindset are essential when creating a legacy. For those ready to build their legacy, several great resources connect you to inspiring mentors. For example, my TV show, Ignite Humanity Live, brings new guests daily to share their wisdom through storytelling. There is power in personal stories and much to learn from each guest.

It’s up to you to ignite your legacy on a global scale. You can nurture your purpose, step into your role as a leader, and connect with people who will take you to the next level. Legacy awaits you!
